Last night I hooked the vudu box up to my Pioneer Elite Pro 920 HD TV media receiver with supplied HDMI cable and used an ethernet cable to my Apple Time Capsule wireless router.
During the setup, the on-screen message asked if I could hear audio-- I did hear audio, so I continued as instructed. After the setup and activation completed, I tried to preview a movie. I saw the video, but all I heard was audio from my TV... it was then that I realized, when the on-screen instructions asked if I could hear audio, that it should have been audio instructions and NOT the audio coming from the tv channel I was watching. I thought all audio and video goes through the HDMI cable. I did not hook up separate audio cables. How do I fix this problem? The TV has 2 HDMI inputs which must be "activated" in order to be used. For some reason, the only way I can get back to seeing and hearing the television channel I was watching, is to "deactivate" HDMI on my TV. How do I fix this problem? Am I screwed??? The media receiver is plugged into an Arcam AVR-300 AV receiver. Thanks in advance |

Your post has confused me somewhat. How about telling us how you want your system to work? Keep in mind that all 4 of the audio outputs on the Vudu are active simultaneously (HDMI, Digital, Optical, Red/White Analog).

How were you watching a TV channel and simultaneously setting up the Vudu? Vudu does carry audio over HDMI, but if you have the TV selected for the port the Vudu is on, then you won't see your TV program and you will hear the Vudu.
So I am very confused...

Why do you have TWO receivers as well?
I'm very confused by your setup...

I see now. That Pioneer has a media receiver that all the components plug into. Then that has a connection to the display.
I just looked at the manual and the media receiver does have two HDMi inputs but no HDMI outputs to a receiver. Only an optical out to an audio receiver. So HDMi and optical out would need to be used from the VUDU box to go to the media receiver. Then the media receiver should send the video to the display and the audio on to the audio receiver over the optical cable. |

If AVR doesn't have HDMI inputs & output that goes to TV's media receiver, then I'd think that the proper way to connect VUDU would be:
video: HDMI to TV's media receiver audio: Toslink/Coax digital audio to one of the inputs on AVR. VUDU should work fine outputting both HDMI & digital audio at the same time. Last edited by Rusdude; 12-30-2008 at 03:42 PM. Reason: For clarification |

Thanks for you thoughts... I'm still a little confused, though.
The Pioneer TV has its own "media receiver" which gets plugged into the actual TV display with a system cable. All other connections go through the media receiver to and from other components in the system. The media receiver has two HDMI inputs (HDMI 1, HDMI 3), two component video inputs (1 and 3), a digital optical out terminal and additional audio and video in/outputs, including S-video. My basic setup is as follows: Component video cables from "high quality video out" on AVR to "component video input 1" terminals on TV media receiver; Component video cables from cable tv box "video out 1" to "high quality AV in" on AVR; Cable box "digital audio out" to "AV digital in" on the AVR; Cable box "audio/video out 2" to DVD recorder "line in"; DVD recorder "digital out" to "digital in" on AVR. DVD recorder "component video out" to AVR "DVD high quality video in". iPod Homedock Deluxe "audio and video out" to AVR "sat audio/video in". iPod Homedock Deluxe "S-video out" to TV media receiver "S-Video input 1". The Arcam AVR has 2 digital outputs: optical and coaxial. It has 6 digital inputs, 3 of which are optical. The Vudu player is set up as follows: Wireless ethernet connection; Digital optical output on TV media receiver to Vudu; Vudu HDMI to TV media receiver "HDMI input 3". http://www.arcam.co.uk/downloads/DiV...20handbook.pdf With this setup, I get vudu video, but audio is tv audio from the channel I'm watching. Do you think this has anything to do with the initial setup-- I did not hear instructions, only tv audio... Thanks again |

I see the problem right here. Think about it: Digital Optical OUTPUT on TV Media Receiver to Vudu. The Vudu is what is outputting digital audio. However, since the Vudu has HDMI which you are using, the HDMI carries audio. You need to tie the optical audio output of your Media Receiver from the Pioneer into an optical INPUT on the Arcam. You see, right now, there's no audio path from the Vudu to your Arcam. So instead, you hear what your cable box or whatever is on. Think about it and draw it out.
