Took all of about 2 minutes. Customer service left me quite impressed. Forgot to mention getting credit about my movie (or even having it rented again when I get the new box), but I'll deal with that once I have my new box.
That's pretty neat that they'll send you another box before you send yours back to them.

If that's truly the case, then I would be really curious to see if the new box exhibits the same behaviour as your current one, before you send it back.

I'm thinking your unit is a simple case of "infant mortality". But just in case the new one has the same problem in your home, it would be nice to have both of them available for comparision and troubleshooting purposes.

I'm not a VUDU technician, just a curious bystander, so listen to what VUDU tells you to do and not me.

Regards

No I agree Robert - will definitely try the new one out first.

I bought (didn't realize actually) on the day they dropped the price. So it isn't that old.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with my Directv receiver always re-booting. So I replaced it with a new receiver, but ended up with the same problem.

So I had an electrician come out, and he discovered massive corrosion in our electrical service panel (we live on the coast which is a very corrisive environment for metal), causing dirty power and intermittent loss of power to some of our outlets.

Anyways he replaced the service panel and it fixed our problem.

So you never know.

Interesting. But mine has worked for a while with nary a problem. Still, I'll try another plug.

Just curious, what tool can you use to see voltage coming out of an outlet? I have UPSs which show voltage (and how it flactuates), but I wonder if there is a special tool that does that.

There is probably lots of specialized measurement equipment available. But the only one I know of personally is an oscilloscope. It will show and measure an actual picture of the power's 60 HZ sine wave and all the junk riding with it.

But it's not a cheap piece of equipment. I used to work for Tektronics in Beaverton OR, many years ago. If you're interested you might check out their website. The equipment they make nowdays probably doesn't even resemble what I used to work with.

H-P used to be a big measurement equipment maker, but I don't know if they are still in that business or not.

HP has spun off their test equipment and the name of the company is Agilent Technologies. I too used to use their signal analyzers when we had "Lease Line" technolgoies connecting networks.

A lot of places make AC Mains line monitors. You could do it yourself with a good, sensitive digitizing voltmeter and a data acquisition card...

Well, us average Joes just check to see if the cable box we left on and plugged into the same outlet is now powered off, or what the last reboot date was on the other thingamabob plugged into the same outlet.
