Apparently, buying a blu-ray movie doesn't mean you will get a HD code with it

I was always under the impression that when you bought a physical disc that includes the UV copy, that if you bought a dvd you got SD, if you bought a blu-ray you got HD/HDX....

    Apparently not....

Rebirth of Mothra I, and Rebirth of Mothra II, both redeem to SD even though they are blu-ray. While the 3rd disc in the set redeems to HD. Doesn't make sense.

Their response when I emailed them was not helpful at all, either..
"Through Vudu, Rebirth of Mothra 1 and Rebirth of Mothra 2 are only provided in SD quality. Rebirth of Mothra 3 is available through Vudu in HDX, HD, and SD.

The codes will redeem to match the qualities available through our site that are provided by the respective movie studio."

All they did was restate what I had said....lol

If it is the studio's fault, then they need to start putting on the package that it is just a SD uv code.

I redeemed this same code at the Sony Pictures Store site and it put all them in HD in that account but when they transferred to VUDU as you stated 1, 2 are SD and 3 is HDX, this is an issue with VUDU I'm thinking not having the HD streams available for whatever reason, not with the Studio, maybe VUDU was never given such HD streams by the studio which is Sony..........

Were you able to play the HD via Sony Pictures Store?

Every time I tried it crashed...and when I downloaded their software so I could download the movies to my PC, the downloader would never refresh and show my library

No, you technically get the HD version if you redeem it with a provider that offers it, which the Sony site apparently does. If you redeem it on Vudu, they will give you what they have available and that is all you will have. If you redeem it with Sony, you will get HD and if Vudu only has the SD version, that is all that will display.

I have converted movies like Bird and The Mission on competitor's D2D services to get the HD versions, but they will only play in SD here until/unless Vudu gets the higher quality versions at a later date.

Another major flaw in the way UV operates, definitely something that needs to be addressed going forward.

You absolutely should be automatically getting the HD version when you redeem a BR, that's crazy to stick you with an inferior SD when you paid good money to buy the better physical format.

Of course, the inconsistencies from one provider to the next is also something that is getting annoying.

If the studio doesn't give Vudu the HD version, they can't redeem it as HD. This is not Vudu's fault. They can request a new copy but that doesn't mean they will get it. The Studios control the content and provide what they want.

              I didn't think it was Vudu's fault....

My comment was that it is a problem with the UV format as a whole. When you buy something, there should be consistency across the board.

When you buy a HD movie, it should be HD no matter what service you use to view it.

They need to change the way movies are licensed to the different services.

Here's a stupid question....why doesn't the company that runs the UV locker (uvvu.com) buy the licensing and then resell it to the various services? That would guarantee every service had the same UV content.
