Raiders of the Lost Ark / Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Can anyone tell me if the aspect ratio on either of these movies have been corrected on Vudu?

A few months back, someone I know purchased both of these, but as soon as the opening credits were done, the aspect ratio changed to a 16:9 pan and scan.

He called Vudu and got a refund.

iTunes has both of these movies in the correct aspect ratio. ("Letterboxed", or Anamorphic Widescreen Aspect Ratio).

Anyhow, now that Star Wars is finally in my Vudu collection, I would really like to add all of the Indiana Jones movies, but I really don't want some junk pan and scan version.

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

I agree with your point of view entirely, and I'm sick of this ridiculous 16:9 pan & scan process that is going on. Don't people understand that it is the exact same nonsense that went on for years when widescreen movies were cropped for 4:3 televisions? The whole point of widescreen televisions is to be able to watch movies in their original widescreen aspect ratio as if you are viewing them in the theater when they came out. We aren't supposed to be viewing zoomed in cropped versions just to fill the screen entirely. This entire process is just a practice in idiocy! Streaming services need to stand up to studios and not accept altered aspect ratios of movies or tv shows.

Good luck getting Vudu to fix anything. Their typical "go to" response for issues with any film is to say they'll request a new encode from the studio, which never happens.

These are two of the most popular movies of all time. Vudu has known for over 2 years that both movies are screwed up. And in all that time, they still haven't gotten them fixed. That's really disappointing.

I don't know why other VOD sites are able to get both films in their correct aspect ratio, but for some reason Vudu is stuck with screwed up versions.

This is why I don't buy any movies digitially, you don't have these issues if you buy the blu ray.

No digital library....I'm sorry. Unlike many of us you have not learned the joy of having a large film & tv library available at all times, wherever you are, on the platform of your choice. just ribbing ya

I just purchased Raiders of the Lost Ark today, unaware of the aspect ratio issue.

The fact that this hasn't been fixed after 4 years is pretty damn annoying.

Quick update on this. Amazon Prime has all Raiders movies in the correct aspect ratio.

                VUDU-

When will you update the copies I bought to the correct aspect ratio. The digital version is available obviously. Please advise.

Amazon Instant Video has them in correct aspect ratio as well.

If only Paramount would join MA, we could enjoy them in Amazon video.

I thought we'd fixed this/updated to proper aspect ratio. Not the case?

I don't own the film on Vudu, so can't confirm the Vudu AR, but OAR for Raiders is 2.39:1. If the Vudu transfer is taken from the Blu master, it'll be 2.35:1, which should be an unnoticeable difference for most viewers.

If the Vudu transfer is in 16x9 or in 1.85:1, then you are cropping a sizeable part of the video content from the sides of the frame.

You should be able to tell the difference simply by starting up the film and watching past the intro.
