    SW:tFA Beware SPOILERS PRESENT!

thought a thread to discuss plot points in episode seven to be worthwhile.

    Questions TBD:
    1. Who are Rey's Parents
    2. Why is Luke at the First Jedi Temple
    3. What caused R2 D2 to wake

    [*]Who are Rey's Parents

No confirmations, but I think she is a Skywalker
[*]Why is Luke at the First Jedi Temple

He went into exile after Kylo Ren betrayed him and destroyed the new Jedi Order.
[*]What caused R2 D2 to wake

I think Rey's presence was the catalyst behind R2-D2 coming out of 'sleep' mode

      > 1. Who are Rey's Parents

The fact that neither Leia nor Han seemed to recognize her or be curious about her origins makes me think she's probably not a Skywalker or a Solo. Interestingly, it's only Kylo Ren that reacts strongly to the news of a girl being in the mix on Jakku, so it seems like he knows something about her.

During her visions, she hears Obi-Wan's voice calling her name. That's very interesting. He would have been dead before she was born, but I do think there's some connection there. She does have a British accent, after all. That would be a nice touch considering all of the other major characters have some presences in the new movie. We saw Ben have a relationship or two during the Clone Wars era, so who knows?

I'm also totally fine with the possibility that she comes from people we don't know anything about, like Anakin did.

      > 2. Why is Luke at the First Jedi Temple

This one makes a lot of sense to me. He tried to restart the Jedi Order and it failed badly. The result was his nephew turning into a new Sith Lord and probably a bunch of dead classmates. He needs to learn from the masters in an effort to get it right, and to process his grief and guilt.

      > 3. What caused R2 D2 to wake

I don't know that there's a good in-universe reason. The missing map piece, Rey, and everyone was right there in the same location as R2D2 when they were planning the attack, but that didn't do it. Now Luke himself was probably aware of some of the things that happened to the other characters so he could have wanted to let them find him at that point, but we don't know how he could have activated R2D2 from several systems away, unless you just chalk that ability to up to The Force.

The Knights of Ren's revolt sent him into exile, true. I think the temple is important though.

Anakin was born w/o a father. It was spoken of as a convergence in the force. He was the one prophesied to bring balance back to the force, which he did with his dying act.

I see Rey as the strongest person in the force so far in the Star Wars saga. W/o training, she repelled Kylo Ren's mind probing. She has also without training, mastered telekinetic movement.

It is my belief she was born of the force at the temple and has no parents. I see her as another convergence born at a time of need, similar to the events which brought Anakin into the saga, but she is stronger still.

The temple was a retreat, yes, but also significant in that it is a force nexus.
