    UHD Digital copies?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to mention this so if not, admins please move it.

Does anyone know if the digital copies that come with the upcoming UHD 4K discs are also UHD themselves? I don't have a 4KTV yet but I am hoping to future proof any upcoming titles I purchase. Happy New Year to everyone.

I don't think anyone knows for sure yet. (Maybe some industry insiders do.) Chances are, no, at least not at first. Or some studios will charge for an 4K digital upgrade. Over the years that could change as 4k becomes more common.

Rinse and repeat for "Premium/Full 4k" down the road, 3D 4K, 8k, etc.

The packaging says Digital HD instead of Digital 4K or something to distinguish. Unfortunately looks like HD for now.

That may be just Fox. There were some Warner mock ups that said UHD digital or something to that affect.

Fox isn't. This is what I got from Fox "Please be aware 4K titles will not come with 4K digital downloads. We currently do not have any information regarding ultra high def digital transfer. Please note your current HD download will not convert when and if UHD ever becomes available."

            And the Sony site says:

ATTENTION: If you are redeeming an UltraViolet code from a Sony Pictures 4K UHD disc, please note that you will only be able to stream up to HD quality on SonyPicturesStore.com (downloads are only in SD). You will be granted the 4K UHD right, and will be able to stream in 4K once an UltraViolet-enabled 4K service is available in your country.

The Warner UHD titles that Vudu carries are redeemable in UHD with UV codes. I bought the 4K Blu-ray of Mad Max: Fury Road even though I don't yet have a player, and the UV code unlocked Vudu's UHD version. I can cast with Dolby Vision from my cellphone or tablet to my Vizio P65 TV, but the movie plays back sans Dolby Vision on the Roku 4.

                Here is this thread

                https://forum.vudu.com/showthread.ph...s-redeem-in-4K

and some more info can be found here

                https://forum.vudu.com/showthread.ph...-4k-Redemption

There's a lot of mixed information out there right now and I'm not sure the studios even know what they're doing.

                  Re: UHD Digital copies?

I'm not an expert in this area, but I think it depends on the policies of each studio and if the movie is actually available on UHD streaming. I just bought 4K discs for four of the Bourne movies. I did a lot of research before attempting to redeem the included digital codes, and based on the advice of another forum member, I redeemed the codes via myuv.com instead of redeeming them directly with Vudu.

The process was very straightforward, and once I entered the code on the insert, the web page confirmed that I had redeemed a UHD version of each movie before it asked me which provider I wanted complete my redemption with (I had a choice between Flixster or VUDU). I selected Vudu on each occasion, which then opened a new tab that took me to my Vudu account. I checked all four movies in my Vudu, and they were all UHD.

As far as I can ascertain, at the moment only Warner and Universal are "guaranteeing" a UHD digital copy if you buy the 4k movie disc and the UHD streaming version is available, but I assume the others will soon follow.

I recently bought the 4K discs for both Deadpool and the Martian (extended edition). They are both distributed by Fox. I could not find the UHD streaming copies of these movies available. When I redeemed both digital codes via Vudu, they were both HDX versions. I have checked my UV account, and it states that I redeemed the HD and SD copies of these movies via Vudu. I will wait to see if Fox releases UHD streaming versions of these movies, and then stake my claim to get my digital copies upgraded.

Here's a pretty good guide as to what redeems where, and at what quality level:
