    ...speaking of Anime

Is there a way to filter on Anime? I don't see it as a genre or filter and have had a real hard time finding any Anime at all. Could someone either show me what I am missing or do you think a request for Anime as a filter would be something Vudu would consider?

Where to start with this one....this was a big battle in beta about what categories should be on the list. Anime used to be under Animation but then Animation also included non-family friendly animation which upset a few parents with young children. Since most adults assume that animation refers to kids programming.

From a UI perspective VUDU wants the filter list to fit on the screen thus the category animation was removed along with a bunch of others.

The folks at VUDU cruse the board so lets see what type of responses you get from your post in this thread...

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining that. I can understand the concept of having the filters fit on the screen but it does hamper the ability for finding a show you want to see. Scrolling through hundreds of movies per category to dig out anime isn't fun. And when I did find one, I thought "Hey - cool - now I can just click the 'similar titles' options and get more anime!!".
Wrong answer. That displayed 3 other movies, none of which were anime. D'oh!
Perhaps Vudu can consider making the filter screen be double wide, rather than scrolling it down and off screen? This would allow for a bunch more filtering options.

      Regards,
      --Eryk

Perhaps we'll see the "More" button come to our rescue in the future. It would be nice to click more when the cursor is in any of the categories/filters and have an exteneded list of the less common options appear.

They need some kind of filter. I certainly don't want to wade through 6000+ titles. Is there even a ratings filter? It seems like that should be used if you are looking for kid programming which should be G rated. Why would adults think animation is childrens programming? Even most of the big animated titles work on an adult level and a childrens level. They aren't just aimed at kids.
I just know I would like to watch some animated titles. I have no idea what titles so i would like to search through specifically titles that have animation. Currently I can only find something if I know the title before hand, which makes absolutely no sense when you are talking about 6000+ titles. It's something simple that should have been taken care of by now.

Have you used the "Explore Genre" function? It has a ton of filters, including ratings like you mentioned. It sounds like you've missed this piece of the interface.

So you're saying there is an "Animation" filter under genre?

No, I'm saying there is a RATINGS filter, which you seem to have overlooked.

I see. although I have no need for a ratings filter. I need an "animation" Genre. There is no way for me to find out what animated titles are on VUDU, therefore there is no way for me to purchase/rent any of them since I'm not going to search through 6000 titles to try and find one.
So that is some lost revenue from me because they don't have an animation genre.
If they have a ratings filter then there is no reason they shouldn't have an animation filter. People could pick animation with a "G" ratings filter and they can get the animation aimed at children.
It just seems like something simple and the problem is solved. Instead they lose revenue by not having it.

Which is exactly the kind of feedback we are hoping this thread gets, as there used to be an animation genre, but they dropped it to keep the list from having to "scroll". Read RonV's initial response again, and my follow-up with the MORE button suggestion. We agree with you, we need more folks to chime in.

P.S. Is this becoming a circular logic thread?

                      Re: ...speaking of Anime

As a fan of both animation and anime, I'd love to be able to sort down to just those categories. Perhaps there could be a tag system implemented that basically expands the genres and could be searched.

So I could put in the search terms "anime" and "comedy" and only get those versus "anime" and "robots" and get a totally different list.

So not a drop down menu, but a tag search.

I don't think an Anime category is needed. All you need to know is VUDU has Family Guy. It's mind blowing.

Heck, yes! They do need an anime category! I actually didn't find much anime at all on the box except Tekkonkinkreet (bought it but haven't watched yet) and that Ramen Figher Miki series (silly). Has anyone else found anything else?

P.S. Vudu should hook up with RightStuf and distribute titles from their Nozomi Entertainment label -- http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/nozomiEntertainment/

P.P.S. While looking on Vudu to learn proper spelling of "Tekkon..." movie, I found out the Imagination Land series from "South Park" is available on HD!

I would start with the Studio filter, choosing Independent (AFAIK, Vudu does not have the Disney releases of Miyazaki's movies), and choose Genre Sci-Fi and possibly Fantasy. That might be a start. Unfortunately, I'm not at home, and can't test this right now.

Thanks! The genre is combined (Sci-Fi/Fantasy), and the only anime title I found was Psychic Force which was already on my list (Filter->Language->Japanese).
