    highlander the series upscale

is there a way to turn off the up-scaling done for this series and watch it the way it originally aired it would make the flashbacks better

The only thing you have control over is the streaming resolution / quality. The stream is as it is from the studio otherwise.

Well I thought about this for a while before responding and in my opinion when I buy a series I want it to look like it did when it aired with the exception of music which sometimes has to be changed for financial reasons by the studio the up-scaling was not needed or wanted

It's not uncommon for TV Shows (and movies) to have Zoom, Scaling, Compression, and other things changed from original airing.

Simpsons on Disney+ and prior FOXnow had the older titles zoomed into fill the black side bars on a 16:9 screen; at the expensive of cutting off top and bottom. Enough people complained it was finally redone.

Seinfeld also some weirdness as well but I don't recall what it was and I don't think it was changed.

Sometimes it's just using an older conversion; taking the cheap approach, etc.

Anyway Vudu has no control over it and Highlander doesn't have enough community support behind it to get the studio to do a remaster.

I agree, upscales and/or HD remasters are not needed for older TV shows and not everybody wants them. Forcing an upgraded version on everyone is wrong, we should always have the option of viewing TV shows as they originally aired. Any other versions are alternate versions where the quality and possibly aspect ratio have been changed.

Depends on the content for me. I think Seinfeld for example was never reached on BD or 4K. It should have been aired in 4:3 480P or 720P.

But it was shot on film so you could fairly easily do a 4K master of Seinfeld. I’d prefer to see it in the higher quality it was shot on instead of the low, low broadcast quality we had at the time. That’s said it should be 4:3 as it meant to be shown, I think. But if the film was widescreen I’m okay with the extra width.

The sad thing is when DVD was first coming out we were promised so many smart and interactive features that (largely) never come out and still largely hasn’t.

Seinfeld has been replaced by widescreen versions for streaming. And like many older 4:3 shows that were converted to widescreen it wasn't simply just opened up wider to reveal more picture on the sides. There are a lot of instances in Seinfeld where picture is lost on the top and bottom of the original 4:3 frame from cropping to achieve 16:9. There are videos on youtube that show this. Widescreen conversions are not the actual show that was produced, they are alternate versions. While I have no problem with them existing, streaming sites should always offer both versions, original and converted to watch so fans can choose.
