Re: How is the Vudu 3D quality compared to 3D Bluray?

Does anyone know the maximum bitrate used by the 3D HDX version of a movie?

Re: How is the Vudu 3D quality compared to 3D Bluray?

Vudu supports 1080 3D and has for years. I've rented and purchased several 3D movies from Vudu and only several dozen 3D Blu-rays.

I've owned several 3D projectors over the years. All Active glasses. All 1080P projectors.

I've used a dozen or so Vudu 3D unit's (often switch back and forth several at any one time) over the years. This included 720 units PS3 and low end 3D Blu-Ray from Panasonic and LG and High-End Multi-Core units from Sony and Oppo.

Currently I have Vudu 3D running through a Oppo Blu-Ray (Streaming), Epson Pro Cinema THX Projector on a 118" Matte 1.0 gain tensioned screen in a dedicated room with a Denon 11.2 Surround System using Klipsch THX speakers.

I've had plenty of people over that quite critical and have been quite impressed with not only with the 3D, but color purity, black level, depth, etc (ignoring sound for this discussion). Those same people have placed the presentation in ballpark with all but the best reference theaters they've been to. Yes, I'm using equipment above what most people would call above, but it's also not esoteric, or unattainable.

The point being that even with equipment a fraction the cost of studio equipment and with highly compressed stream people with critical opinions (while not blown away) were still suitably impressed with Vudu's picture and 3D.

Re: How is the Vudu 3D quality compared to 3D Bluray?

In a follow up to this post I went against my better judgement and purchased the Iron Man 3 2D/3D bundle. I can't say I am very pleased with my purchase. The video quality of the 3D version is poor beyond measure. At least on my PS3 & 360. The 360 was better than the PS3, however that is not really saying much. The only silver lining is the hope that both next gen consoles will support better quality 3D streaming on Vudu. For now I will be sticking to Blu-ray when it comes to 3D movies.

I am thinking about buying the Iron Man 3 3D bundle however I have heard conflicting reports about the overall quality of Vudu 3D. Does it match up to bluray for other discs? I understand the PS3 runs only 720p, but is that the only device that runs at that resolution or does Vudu only do 3D @720p? I'm sure the PS4 & XB1 will have no problem running HDX/1080p 3D.
