    Hello Mike,
We don't have your specific model here at VUDU. But we checked with other LG plasma TVs that we have here. We are following up with LG to find out what the issue could be.
You should see the free preview option once you click on "Rent/Own" for movies that can be rented or purchased.
    Hagen.

      Hagen,

I also wanted to post that I'm having the exact same issue with the LG 46ld550 LCD TV. Same issue where the optical output is outputting 2.0 stereo only, and there are no settings to adjust in the menu.

Up until a month or so back I used to get 5.1 DD through VUDU. But after one of the last two firmware updates I'm having issues with the last two movies I watched. Both Inception and Devil HD versions only played with 2.0 stereo.

I wanted to mention this too to lend support to this LG issue as I'm also hoping to find a resolution for my set too as this issue is quite maddening

Re: Problem with LG Netcast TV and Vudu audio output/format...?

I started to research this a little bit and it seems to be a more wide spread problem with certain LG TVs.
Please also complain to LG's customer support, since this is an issue in their firmware.
I will also work with LG to get this fixed for all models.
        Hagen.

Has there been any sort of fix for this yet? I too have an LG TV (42LE5400) and cannot get any audio to my receiver (utilizing optical output from TV).

The crappy part is that I just rented a video in dolby digital plus 5.1 that I cant even watch now.

Is it possible for me to get my money back for this particular rental?

            Thspoq,

Send me a private message containing your email address attached to your vudu account, as well as the movie you rented. I should be able to add the credit back to your account.

I actually called VUDU customer service last night and they credited my account with it. Thanks, though!

For what its worth, I also contacted LG's customer service last night in regards to the issue since the problem is on their end. Well, to make the long story short, it was a worthless conversation. I explained, in detail, the entire issue. The service tech literally said "We are unaware of this issue, hopefully this conversation will be recorded and the issue will be looked into."

So basically, they dont give 2 $hits (the help desk atleast).

Its really an unfortunate situation, I am 100% satisfied with VUDU's service (and customer service!), however, I cant utilize it because of LG.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

I heard from LG engineering and they acknowledged that a recent software update broke this functionality. They already have a fix and the next network software update will fix the issue.

I just got another e-mail from LG engineering. They told me that the network software update is already out.
Can one of you who has that problem please confirm?
                    Thanks,

Yes, I tried the optical output last night, and I believe it's now fixed. Hagen - can you direct us to any additional trailers that are DD5.1? I tried the Beastly one I believe.

                        Hi Mike,
I couldn't find any other trailers.
But as I mentioned before, you can use the free preview feature to test 5.1 output. E.g. click on rent/own for "Despicable Me" and then select the preview option for the quality level that you want to stream. That will give you the first 2 minutes of the actual movie without having to pay for it.
                        Hagen.

One more data point, this with an LG BD590 Blu-Ray player running Netcast, VUDU UI 2 and firmware BD.8.31.333.C

Rented and downloaded "Astronaut Farmer" in HD, viewed with great picture quality, but Dolby 5.1 was not present. Onkyo receiver indicated it was dts PCM on audio; coudln't get Dolby Digital to light up under any setting. Played that way, there was only center channel and subwoofer sound. When I set playback quality to SD and sound to Dolby Pro Logic II, that worked fine with signal to all speakers.

                            Hi wildwillie6,
I just had a look at that title and all quality levels have only stereo dolby digital. So there shouldn't be a difference between HDX, HD and SD for the audio part.
And what do you mean by dts pcm? Does your receiver indicate PCM or DTS?
How is your BD player audio signal connected to the receiver - via HDMI or S/PDIF?
                            Hagen.

Another LG to report, a Blu-ray player in this case:

I've got an LG BD-640 (new firmware version BD5.370.0) connected via HDMI to a Vizio E420V0, which is connected via optical to an older Technics SA-DX940.

The LG has four audio modes out the HDMI port:
                              1. PCM - This gives me sound on the TV and the stereo, but only stereo
                              2. PCM Multi-channel - sound, but still only stereo
                              3. DTS re-encode - No sound
                              4. Primary pass-through - no sound

These are the symptoms I get on Toy Story (which appears to be DD+). On the Vudu Dolby Demo (which I guess is only DD despite having the DD+ icon on the screen the whole time?) I get sound in all modes and the little orange "Dolby Digital" icon lights up on the receiver in DTS Re-Encode and Primary Pass-through mode.

I don't have a means at my disposal of testing the coaxial audio output from the LG... the receiver has only optical.

Kind of an annoyance, and I like the Vudu service otherwise. Unsure where the issue lies -- with Vudu or LG or even Vizio. Just adding some data to the pool.

I just wanted to add that I have the exact same problem: LG 42LE5400 connected via optical digital audio to Polk Audio soundbar. I have sound fine via the TV speakers when I watch VUDU movies. When I turn the TV speakers off and try to use Polk Audio speakers, all audio is gone and I hear nothing. Audio for everything else works fine via the Polk Audio speakers: cable, blueray player, cinemanow, other internet services. Please help. I have the latest software updates running on the TV and it was just purchased on December. Can VUDU engineers offer any advice. Thanks.
