No Sound using Vudu through LG's NetCast

No Sound using Vudu through LG's NetCast...

I have an LG 47LE5400, the audio is from TV optical out to a Polk Soundbar. All Netcast apps have sound, Netflix and so on, just Vudu seems to have the issue.

I have the latest firmware update for NetCast, version 2.0 I believe.

I've tried all formats of video for a each movie still no sound.

    Any Ideas?

There was recently a problem with the firmware of certain LG TVs. Can you please verify that there is no additional network update available?
If you are using the latest firmware, please send me the firmware version of your TV.
    Hagen.

Thanks for responding. The TV firmware version is Ver. 08.02.16 which is the current version on LGs website.

The sound does work through the normal LCD/LED TV speakers just not on the optical out.

      Thanks,
      Bluescast

        Hi Bluecast,
I'm checking with LG if there are any known problems/fixes for the problem with your firmware version.

I have the same problem on the same series tv's. This problem has to do with DTS audio, and LG not paying them a pound of flesh for support on it. It will not pass the DTS audio through the optical port to your DTS compatible device. It's very annoying and I have the same problem with other videos. I hope VUDU puts in transcoding support for devices or something, otherwise I will use alternative means.

I also have no audio with my LG 50PX950 using Polk Soundbar via optical output. TV speakers work okay, but no audio through Polk Soundbar.

We are not using DTS. We are only using Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus for the audio on our service.
Are you all using VUDU streaming on the TV or on a connected BD player (or other device).

Can both of you please also let us know which model of the Polk Soundbar you are using?

Not sure how to get my firmware off my LG...I can tell you that it recently (in January did update to the most recent version)

Re: No Sound using Vudu through LG's NetCast

Same setup here and no sound through the polk SB3000 via optical input. My LG speakers betrayed the excellent hi-def picture when I watched Michael Clayton last night.
I'm on the intro $5.99 credit. If Vudu will only work with the poor speakers on my 46" LG TV I won't be inputting the credit card info for future viewing.

My firmware is updated as of late January.

I hope this situation can be resolved as I don't want to be a Netflix customer - all the movies I want to view are mailed-DVD only which doesn't appeal to me.

I'm not 100% sure where to find the firmware version. Should be somewhere under the settings. I'll check on Monday.
I forwarded all the information to LG's engineering. They are currently investigating.

No sound using connect4 whole house system. All other devices (Cable dvrs, receiver, blu ray) function. Problem began with the new vudu interface.

Re: No Sound using Vudu through LG's NetCast

I got some feedback from LG regarding the sound issue with the Polk Soundbars. Apparently the Polk soundbar 3000 does not support Dolby Digital over on its digital audio input. Only stereo PCM is supported. The TV by default outputs Dolby Digital for VUDU movies (so that it can provide 5.1 channels surround sound).
I asked LG if you can force the output of the TV to be stereo PCM.
The only other option would be to connect the analog audio output of your TV to the soundbar.

Update: I heard back from LG, it is not possible to force the output of the TV to stereo PCM. I also checked the manual for the TVs - they don't seem to have an analog output either. So, I'm afraid the only option is to watch vudu movies using the built in speakers of the TV.

                              Hagen.
