Re: No Sound using Vudu through LG's NetCast

Hagan thank you for digging up the answer to my problem.

Having thought it over I think I'd still rather use Vudu than Netfxxx.

I asked LG if you can force the output of the TV to be stereo PCM.
The only other option would be to connect the analog audio output of your TV to the soundbar.

Update: I heard back from LG, it is not possible to force the output of the TV to stereo PCM. I also checked the manual for the TVs - they don't seem to have an analog output either. So, I'm afraid the only option is to watch vudu movies using the built in speakers of the TV.

Thanks for the info Hagen. Looks like I'll need to buy a compatible soundbar. I have the Polk soundbar3000 as well.

Not me. I started with the $89 vizio from costco. Sounded great, went dead after 3 weeks and back to costco. Then the Panasonic 2.1SB, which was a terrible value at $200. Didn't sound any better than my LG speakers, just louder.
Returned that to the same store for the PA 3000. Sounds great for my needs. I discarded the packaging after a weeks trial so here it will stay.

              Hello Merc98c,
Did you try disabling the built in speakers of your TV in its setup?
Do you get sound from other services that run on your TV?

This is very discouraging. This thread starts off in 2007 with the exact same problem. Four years later and still no fix for this. I have an LG 50pz550 HDTV and the other services' audio via optical works just fine. I've got the latest firmware.

Could one possibly get a new soundbar or audio receiver capable of interpreting the incoming Dobly Digital Plus audio codec to rectify this issue?

Re: No Sound using Vudu through LG's NetCast

For devices connected by a digital audio connections (i.e. S/PDIF) you just need a receiver/sound bar that supports Dolby Digital. But depending on the TV model, you need the proper audio settings to enable Dolby Digital output. For LG TVs you typically have to disable the internal speakers to enable Dolby Digital audio output.
Dolby Digital Plus is not supported over S/PDIF. You would need an HDMI connection (like on a BD player) to output Dolby Digital Plus.
                    Hagen.
