Which VuDu clients support this format? Will I be able to get this from my legacy VuDu and VuDu XL hardware?

I don't see how unless they convert to 7.1 PCM since DD does not support discrete 7.1.

While DD+ supports up to 13.1 discrete channels.

I'm wondering if they might have done a firmware update that enabled the DD+ formats. I've been working on some other products that we were able to take from PCM 2.0 audio to support things like DD+ 7.1. It's all in the firmware.

Unfortunately we can not support 7.1 on the VUDU box.
But most VUDU enabled BD players can output 7.1 DD+ via HDMI and the PS3 VUDU application update to support 7.1 is available now as well.
            Hagen.

The original VUDU boxes did not have HDMI 1.3. HDMI 1.3 or higher is needed to bitstream DD+.

Has anyone gotten their PS3 to display Dolby Digital Plus while watching a movie that supposedly has that audio? I just rented Horrible Bosses in HDX and the info tab says "Dolby Digital Plus 5.1", but all my HDMI receiver says on the display is "PCM". BTW, the receiver is a Pioneer SC-07 with native HD audio decoding over HDMI 1.3. And, yes, I downloaded the latest PS3 firmware (3.73) and the latest VUDU app update, which supposedly enables DD+ and 7.1 channels.

                  Pulsation,

Have you experienced this problem with other DD+ movies, or is this the first one you've tried?

Also, when you browse the audio settings within the PS3, which options do you have checked?

The PS3 can't "bitstream" (ie. send the original compressed stream directly) the DD+ 7.1 output (in apps/games, at least)- instead it outputs it as 8 channel PCM. So, the receiver may say "PCM" - can you tell (via the receiver front panel or just by listening to the speakers) if it's getting all channels?

Oh - also go into the PS3 audio settings and make sure "PCM 7.1" is enabled as an allowed output...

I have all the allowable audio output options ticked in the setup...for PCM outputs I have 2.0ch/44.1khz all the way up to 7.1ch/192khz. A different engineer here mentioned that although native DD+ bitstreaming isn't enabled (yet) for PS3 apps/games, the DD+ is losslessly converted to 5.1/7.1 PCM for Vudu movies. So, essentially the quality is the same.

In theory it should be, but in reality, from past devices that have decoded and sent out pcm, it might not be the same.
