New WD TV Live no DD+, just DD audio!

Just updated the firmware, ran the app and am kind of disappointed to find it only supports DD output even on titles with DD+ audio. This is not the fault player as DD+ bitstreams absolutely fine with the Netflix app to my receiver.

    Please resolve ASAP.

    Thanks.

Please let us know your setup:
    - Which movie did you experience the issue?
    - Amp: make and model ?
    - How do you connect video to TV and Audio to amp?
    . HDMI to amp ?
    . Optical to Amp ?
    - What is the Audio set up for WD Live TV?
    . Stereo ?
. Digital Pass-through via HDMI only (VUDU recommended)
    . Digital Pass-through via optical only ?

    Thanks,
    LLN

This happens with all movies and all amps as evidenced by peoples posts to the WD Live Forum, unfortunately DD+ just doesn't work.

Re: New WD TV Live no DD+, just DD audio!

Thanks back. I find DD+ makes an audible difference, especially on movies from Vudu, much more than the feed from Netflix (and even there DD+ is an improvement over standard DD).

What would also be nice would be if the app on the WD TV Live automatically switched over to 24p output on movies that support it. You can force the device to manually switch to 24p output over HDMI but it would be so much easier just to have Vudu do it automatically. Since most of the content on Vudu is film based I assume most of it is 24p anyways.

Thanks again for making Vudu a great viewing experience at home!

I am unable to get the Vudu app to play anything in 1080p on my WD Live...it keeps switching my WD Live to 720p and I have to manually switch it back through the Video Settings when I am done watching. Has anyone seen this on the WD Live?

Can't say that I have, I own the WDTV Live Hub....VUDU streaming playback is flawless, perfect 1080P/24 output from it to my projector...The menus and functions are practically the same for both devices except for the HDD in the Hub..

Any other app show this issue? If you play BD does it happen there too? Could be a setting issue....I.E. I have HDMI from Hub to projector, setting of Digital Optical Pass-Through and optical cable from device to HT receiver.....Works great.....

If you didn't do so already, check settings in your display, WDTV Live, and if those pan out, the HDMI connections and cable...

It appears to only happen on the Vudu App...Videos and other apps play fine on 1080p and do not adjust the WD Live Settings. I have verified all settings and my connections are as follows:

                WD Live - HDMI - Denon AVR 2311 - HDMI - Panasonic P55VT30

It only appears to be this app. I wonder if it has something to do with the WD Live as I am not running the HUB Version.

Interesting, maybe the techs at VUDU can resolve this issue for you, did you try Customer Care? You may want to try WD forums and support as well.....Good Luck....

                    I have the same issue.

WD live -- Marantz -- Samsung TV, with HDMi connections all around. I have a couple of 1080p movies on my hard drive that I could look at and it works fine. When I go to Vudu, i get a blue screen for about 2 seconds, and it changes back to 1080i.

The issue of displaying 720p is fixed with today firmware upgrade. Please let us know if you still see it. If you still have the issue please let us know make and model of the TV.

Please let us know more detail of your issue.
                          - Is it 720p? If so you may try to force to 1080p instead of setting up as "auto"
                          - Is it DD+ issue? If so can you tell us about the audio connection (HDMI/SPDIF), TV/amp make and model.

                            Ok,

I have the WD TV Live connected to my Marantz receiver via HDMI. The Marantz connects to the Samsung TV (1080p) via HDMI. Every device in my home theater is connected via HDMI.

I have my WD TV Live setup to play 1080p @ 60hz. I can play 1080p videos via my TB drive directly connected to the WD TV with no issues. I can check this by using the display info on my TV to see what the signal being shown is.

When I access the Vudu service via the WD TV, before the Vudu service fully loads, I get a blue screen for about 2 sec, then the video comes back. I check my TV for the display info, and it says 1080i. When I exit out of the Vudu service and check the parameters of the WD TV, it has changed to 1080i. I have made sure I am on the latest firmware for WD TV.

So, to answer your question, it is not set as auto.
This is also not a DD+ issue.

I have the Live Hub too, as I posted before....Made some changes.....I replaced my receiver with the Harman Kardon 2600.....I now have an all-HDMI run from the Hub to my projector....I saw your post and got puzzled as I am not having the problems you are sharing....You are not processing your video/audio with the Marantz, are you? I have no delay when accessing the VUDU app, and my PJ shows 1080P when I stream films.........

That you can play 1080P videos from your hard drive and not from the VUDU app is strange....The blue screen you are referring to may be a handshake delay, between your components...this may point you in the right direction for troubleshooting, that may be the point where it negotiates the resolution as 1080i....May be a handshake issue with the VUDU app......Just guessing....
