    Best Vudu Device

I'm looking for a recommendation for a good Vudu device that will also work for Netflix. I want a wireless Blu-Ray player.

Normally, I am a Sony fan, but I'm hearing a lot of bad things about the wireless on the Sony Blu-Rays.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

IMO, the PS3 is probably the best overall device for VUDU. It supports 3D, allows you to download to the PS3 HDD, and has probably an order of magnitude faster CPU & graphics performance from any other devices.

The downsides I can think of are:

    * it probably costs 2x what a BD player would, so it might be overkill if you only want to use it for video.
    * uses Bluetooth for remote control, so if you want to use a programmable universal remote, you need to get a PS3 BT to IR converter like this: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/remote...s/devices/5732
    * a bit limited in the available media apps right now, though I would think that would get better since it's a popular platform (it does have Netflix though)

Might be a little pricey. I'm not a big gamer, and can't really afford to fit gaming into my time and budget.

A friend of mine bought a Sony BD player a few weeks ago but returned it because the disc loading time was so bad. He picked up a Panasonic instead (BDT-210 or 215 I think? Not 100% sure on that). Said the load time was much better, and he was reasonably happy with the UI and app selection.

I had an LG-570 (I think the current model is 670?) that worked fine with VUDU (replaced with PS3 when we finished support for it), using wired networking or WiFi. I also have a Samsung TV and the WiFi has been kind of flaky on it (forgetting settings, having to manually reconnect, etc) - don't know if that would apply to their BD players, though.

In general the main difference for Internet apps like VUDU would be the performance of the UI (how fast does it load, scroll, etc). Other than that the difference will be some features like 3D support (which is not yet enabled with VUDU on all players) or the general startup time, UI usability, etc of the player itself. I can't comment much on the performance of the Blu Ray disc playback itself on any of these, since I don't watch many discs

When comparing the same Blu-ray disc with both players set to fast load, not power save, there shouldn't be a noticeable difference between a current Sony and Panasonic player in disc loading time. AVSForums is a pretty good place to check when in the market for a new player but disc loading time isn't an issue any longer as far as I know if you don't mind paying for a tiny bit of electricity. Power save mode requires complete player boot up from complete power down and that can take some extra time of course and comparing one player in power save to another in fast load mode isn't a meaningful comparison. A disc using the Java navigation structure compared to a disc using HDMV navigation structure will also skew results, Java loads slower, so any valid comparison requires using the same disc.

I am using a several year old LG BD390 and a PS3 for VUDU and both work well but the PS3 is preferred for its ability to download the rental ahead of time. I also think the PS3 is a great value considering all it does.

I'm not really concerned with load time, just the effectiveness of the wireless.
