    Screensaver Thoughts

I just purchased a new 58" Sammy Plasma tv last week and have been running the burn in DVD a few hours a day every day for the 100-150 hour break in.. some say it's needed, some say it's myth.

In any case, I purchased a Vudu yesterday and was watching it last night, quality is nice, random things could be improved but I like watching products grow. I'll leave it in the HT room and use the Apple TV elsewhere. My suggestion is that we have several options for the screensaver display. With all black and blue vudu logo, every time the Vudu image moves, I see image retention where the VUDU logo was. After about 10 mins I saw tons of them scattered all over the screen. Not that big of a deal but perhaps give us an option of a randomly cycling background color where the vudu logo changes it's position each time the color is cycled. This might avoid any IR.

Sorry for the scattered post, been a long day.

I don't see this with my HD DLP projector, but it sure sounds like a good idea for folks with plasma displays.

I'd like to see some sort of options menu for the screensaver as well -- specifically I want to be able to disable it completely.

Yeah, those of us with plasmas do see the retention. I white it out or start watching a movie and it goes away pretty quickly then...

I would like to be able to change the screen saver too. Maybe show movie posters...

Maybe I'm blind but I have a plasma (50" Pioneer Elite) and I don't see any image retention on the Vudu logo screensaver at all.

But either way - if it's a common issue then I think the ideas proposed are good ones.

            That's because it's an Elite!

How about a way to turn off the screen saver. I have no need for any screen savers. I use DLP and LCD sets. I'd prefer for the menu or whatever I was watching to stay on the screen than for any screen saver to pop up. It's not needed for the majority of people.

Yeah, a toggle (on/off) would be nice.

How long does it take an image on screen for "retention" on these sets? I'm really surprised that the VUDU screensaver would have any impact like that.

Maybe it just needs a logo bouncing around the screen instead?

It doesn't take long. The retention is not permanent. It's rather the phosphors glowing and staying in that state for a while. It goes away eventually. But solid text can make it happen.
