Hi durvelle27, what movie and was the preview DD5.1?

I rented the movie "Gone" which should be 5.1 but it only played as 2.0 . I played the preview and its 2.0 as well. This was the same result played through PS3, Sony BD player and Xbox. Other movie previews (like Act of Valor) thats 5.1 played as 5.1.

I submitted a case but no second respond.

I checked and it looks like it's "encoded" as DD 5.1 but only the L/R channels have an audio signal - I filed a report for our content team to fix it.

None of these look like they are problems with the movie itself, it must be a configuration (or a problem?) with the Vizio TV itself.

If you are sure you have the output correctly set to DD 5.1, you might want to check with Vizio support (or maybe even in the Vizio TV setup menus??) to see if there is any newer firmware available for the TV.

I don't know if this helps but the output selections on your TV include a "Dolby Digital" selection. Try making sure your TV optical output is set to that choice. Streaming Internet apps are very manufacturer specific and I wouldn't be surprised if a PCM setting would pass a Dolby Digital encoded audio stream in some applications but not others. I would suspect that 7.1 audio would not be available in your application since I don't see a E AC3 spec in your TV's specifications. That might change in a firmware update but Vizio tech support would be your best bet to answer that question. You might also check what streaming receiver device you are using (be sure it supports 5.1) and the HDMI version of the cable that connects the streaming receiver to the TV. (I have had the fewest gremlins with a genuine 1.3b or higher version (watch out for substandard imports) HDMI cable when setting up real 3d and 5.1 surround combinations.
