    Digital Audio Problems...!!!

Hey guys I'm a new owner here, but I am very familiar with Home Theater Setups. I just hooked up my Vudu to my existing Yamaha HTR-5960 Receiver via Digital optical cable. At this moment I am only running SD, as my TV upgrade is set for next month. This being said, I was under the impression, from many sources that Vudu was outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 on those movies that show "Dolby Digital Surround Sound" in the details. Well I ordered my first movie last night, and it met the above criteria, unfortunately when I was watching it my audio was in stereo!!! What happened??? I made sure that in the settings of the box I had selected "DD 5.1" instead of stereo, and yet stereo was all I got!!! Any insight?

It should. You might want to submit a customer support request. If all your settings are there and are correct, then you should get DD5.1 on a movie that has it.

#1: make sure you go into Audio settings and select "surround" for both output types.

#2: make sure that your version of the movie has surround. With multiple
movies under one listing, SD version can have stereo while HD/HDX has 5.1.

On the off chance that the movie was really encoded in stereo, try another movie that has DD 5.1. I think statiscally the odds of getting 2 movies listed as 5.1 that are encoded in stereo would be very low. If both still playback in stereo then I would concentrate on equipment setup options.

Well, if the OP ever comes back here, I'd like to rent the same movie and see what I can hear.

HA HA I'm finally back! Okay so I'm gonna verify everything one last time...for reference the movie I rented was "Mama's Boy"...poor choice might I add, but all that being said, I am gonna watch another movie again tonight and hopefully find that "Mama's Boy" was an exception and this problem is not recurring. I'll keep you all posted and appreciate the help thus far...

                  Re: Digital Audio Problems...!!!

The SD version of Mama's Boy is only stereo. Both the HD and HDX versions are 5.1. You can confirm the exact specs of the different versions by choose "rent from..." and then highlight the different options. The details will change to reflect the exact options that are available for each variation of the movie.

I noticed i had 2 versions of the HDX demo that is 2 minutes long. One is in DD 2.0 and the other is in DD 5.1
                    Why are there two versions?

Totally watched a few other movies the other night and had great 5.1DD success!!! Not entirely sure where it tells me if the version I am about to purchase is in stereo or DD, but knowing that some movies are stereo is okay, I'm just not okay with everything being in stereo....

That being said, I saw on here that someone had asked about another filter that sorts by audio type (DD5.1 or DD2.0) and I would just like to say that I second that motion!

It appears that they fixed one of my long time pet peeves. When you are browsing the titles the right side of the screen now shows "all" of the movie detail, instead of partially. So they should now all show in the title detail whether it's either Stereo or Surround Sound. Surround Sound is a code word for DD5.1

Are there any titles that have something besides DD2.0 or 5.1?
Like 2.1 or 3.1 for example?
I know with HD broadcasts I've seen everything broadcast from DD 1.0 to 5.1 and everything in between at one time or another.
