    1080P-24

    Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding the 1080P output of the Vudu. Is the output always 1080P 24 or does it alternate between 1080P 60/24. The reason I ask is my display is 1080P 24 capable but not 1080P 60, so when watching certain movies the Vudu will change resolutions making the panel unwatchable (digital snow). Thanks all for your help on this.

The Vudu NEVER does 1080p60. It does 1080p24 or 1080i30. You can choose between the options in Info & Settings. I have noticed that whenever I first start a movie my projector acts like the resolution has changed, not sure why that is, but it always comes back up where I expect it to be.

I believe all content sent to the VUDU box is 1080/24p and only converted to other formats as needed to support your TV's abilities.

So I'm pretty sure if you successfully set the VUDU video system setting to 1080/24p it will always stay that way (sending 1080/24p to your TV) unless you manually change it to another format.

        Re: 1080P-24

I just did some testing and it seems you're all right. When 1080P-24 is selected the unit will jump between 1080i and 1080P-24 depending on content. It seems that my receiver is having problems passing that onto my set.

As a test, try bypassing your receiver and hook the Vudu directly to the TV. Do some tests, then come back here and report the results. Be sure to include your TV make/model, your receiver make/model, and your Vudu System ID - the engineers can pull a trouble log and see what's happening (and hopefully fix it - they have a long track record of doing so).

Sorry about that. The results I posted in my previous response was the Vudu connected straight to the panel. Below are the components in my system.

Pioneer Elite - Pro-1140 Plasma Display

            Pioneer Elite - SC-05 Receiver

            Vudu System ID# 0x2b98

              Re: 1080P-24

It sounds like your system is not handling HDCP correctly. Not sure why the Vudu would change outputs - it should always be 1080i. Volker, who's our HDMI guru is currently on vacation in Germany for the Holidays. I'm sure he'll look into this when he gets back.

                Re: 1080P-24

I have a Sharp LC-65D93U which supports 1080p/24 with 3:2 pulldown. I have tried setting the Vudu to 1080p, selected /24 support on the TV, but I receive an incompatible signal on the television; the Vudu switches back to 1080i. I have called Sharp and they feel that some copy prevention maybe kicking in and to try component instead. I will update the forum with my results. I am working with Jimmy of Vudu on this problem.

Btw, as for 3:2 pulldown vs 5:5 pulldown, I am only told that 5:5 is better, not that it is a requirement. 5:5 reduces the blur.

                Thanks

Your TV is not truly 1080p/24 compatible. IF your TV is 1080p/24 you don't use pulldown. That's the whole point. You need a sync frequency of 120 Hz typically to get 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 compatibility. There's a lot of info on the site about how running 1080i/30 and letting your TV convert to 1080p/60 will result in no loss of quality.

I cannot be the only customer with /24fps problems when using your box. What Sharp LCDs have been sucessful with properly receiving the signal?

                      Re: 1080P-24

When your sharp "handshakes" with the Vudu it tells the Vudu the resolutions it supports. Your sharp is telling Vudu that 1080p/24 is not supported in 24fps mode. When your TV converts other 1080p/24fps signals via 3:2 pulldown, the outcome is identical to the Vudu 1080i/30fps image. Would you seriously consider selling your TV and purchasing another one to get 24fps at this time? You will gain absolutely nothing on your current monitor even if you could force the Vudu to 24fps mode.

                        Re: 1080P-24

The Sharp Sharp LC-65D93U does NOT support 1080p/24 input. We have to fall back top 1080i (which is equivalant to a 3:2 pull down)
