After playback of content within Vudu Labs...

audio will no longer work when playing standard Vudu movie content. The only way to fix it is by restarting the Vudu box. I've seen this on both my father-in-law's unit and my own.

Vudu is connected via HDMI in both systems. If the user doesn't enter Vudu labs then audio is fine. Only when the user enters Vudu labs and then exits out is when the audio problems come into play. I hope that helps.

Yeah, they're working on that. The recent 2.1.1 software release fixed the Vudu Labs audio glitch for all other sound otions (optical and analog). I'm confident that they'll track down the bug in HDMI and fix it soon. Using optical is a temporary solution if it's practical for your AV configuration.

Or you could just REBOOT after using Vudu Labs and then your HDMI will provide sound again.

Yep, that's Jon's bug - internally they refer to it as the "How can we stick it to Jon for Christmas?" bug. Unfortunately the prank had some collateral damage for innocent bystanders.

I have this same issue and am assuming VUDU will get a fix for it. My question is will the fix automatically make it's way into my box? Do I have to do anything to get software upgrades or are they automatic?

BTW: I am loving some of the features of VUDU labs, especially YouTube. However I have noticed that when I search on VUDU versus on my laptop, I get limited results from the VUDU search using the exact same search terms. Any thoughts/insight?

The updated firmware will come to your box automatically. You might not even know when it comes out as it will usually be pushed in the middle of the night.

It is going to be a few weeks at best most likely before the fix is released. I say that because some of the key Vudu engineers are on vacation right now for the holidays out of the country. So nothing has happened over the last couple weeks. They probably return next week but then they'll have to debug the problem, determine the fix, compile the code, have it tested, etc. Then it will get pushed out to the public. So it will take a couple of weeks at least. But it is a known issue and one that's causing myself headache as well so I feel your pain!

I too have the audio problem after using Vudu Labs (connected through HDMI). Rebooting the box fixes the problem.

Yeah, a lot of users have reported this - HDMI audio problems after going into Vudu Labs. The good news is that a reboot fixes the problem after using Vudu Labs. The better news is that the engineers are working on a patch and we should see a fix for everybody soon (anybody want to bet some cheese on that?).

I'm not sure yet. Every time I use VUDU Labs my Bose Audio changes to DD+ !!

Re: After playback of content within Vudu Labs...

I have submitted a fix which will be part of the next patch release (2.1.2).

Note that if you do not want to reboot you can also :
                    1. switch the HDMI audio settings to stereo
                    2. briefly play the VUDU movie in stereo, there will be sound (or keep watching it, of course)
                    3. switch your settings back to surround sound and continue watching the movie

I do not know when exactly 2.1.2 will be released. QA testing starts early next week.
