Cannot "Cast" certain UHD titles from Vudu app - "Failed to find a playable version"

Error displayed is "Failed to find a playable version of this content"

Since the Vudu app for the Shield TV box is not outputting the proper video levels (see post on that issue), I've resorted to "Casting" movies from my android Vudu app, to the Nvidia Shield TV box.

When "Casting", the video levels are correct, - unlike the Vudu app on the Shield itself - So that's good. At least I can still use Vudu while I wait on the Shield TV Vudu app to be fixed.

But trying to Cast "Blade Runner 2049", in UHD, for example, results in the "Failed to find a playable version for this content" message on the TV.

Casting from the same android Vudu app, to a Sony Android TV instead of the Shield TV, produces the same message. Casting from another android phone via its Vudu app also produces the same situation.

I can Cast other UHD movies just fine however - like "Arrival".

It may have something do to with Dolby Vision and HDR10 encodes - I notice the ones that are not Dolby Vision seem to work, and the ones that are Dolby Vision, or Dolby vision AND HDR10 seem to be the ones that don't play via casting.

By the way, it doesn't matter what HDMI settings I have on my TV - I can cast a UHD movie (one of the ones that works - like "Arrival") to the Shield TV even if it is set to output 1080 via HDMI. Shield downconverts the UHD stream I guess, but Vudu app still Casts the UHD stream, and Shield still plays it just fine - just in 1080. So I don't think these titles not Casting is related to HDMI output settings.

I will say I'm not 100% positive, but I do think I got "Blade Runner 2049" UHD to Cast exactly one time during testing. Don't know how it worked, or why, and I'm not absolutely positive because I've spent so much time testing, but I think this is the case. Have not been able to make it play again, resetting / rebooting any and everything doesn't change anything.

FWIW, I have the latest Google Cast updates on both Android TV devices, and latest Vudu app on phones (that I am initiating the Cast from).

All the HDX streams that I've tried Cast fine.

I've been having the same exact problem since my purchase of Blade Runner 2049 in UHD. Other titles are now giving me the same error when trying to cast in UHD.

I sure witsh Vudu would respond to the "Failed to find a playable version of this content" issue with UHD casting on the Chromecast Ultra.

From what I understand, there's an issue with casting from the mobile apps and are working on app update. You can cast from the Chrome browser on your pc then control your title with your mobile devices.

Any update from VUDU on this? Any time frame for a fix? Anything?

The April 25th update doesn't resolve the issue. I emailed them last week and the reply back stated they didn't have any ETA for fixing the known problem.

It has been 3 years, have they fixed this issue? I'm trying to stream a UHD video to my projector using a chrome cast ultra and my vudu app(android).
