Fire TV Stick 4K does not play nicely with LG 6 series.

Checked and confirmed. VUDU once against 4K24 Dolby Vision from VUDU to my LG B6 using CCU preview firmware. I didn't watch long, but there weren't any immediate issues apparent.

Thank you Jeff, and thank you VUDU, for responding to Google with this issue and helping get it fixed!

I tried upgrading my B6 twice, once to a 7-series and again to an 8-series. The manufacturing tolerances on these units is such that both samples exhibited unacceptable non-linearities in picture quality that could not be corrected. They had to be returned. I will probably try again with a 9-series. I was lucky enough to get a near-flawless B6 sample, which is why I am trying to keep it in service as long as possible. Unfortunately, the Sony OLEDs don't have specific software features that I need for work purposes.

Thanks for posting this. My CCU is in the preview program, but I haven't had a chance to see if it's updated. Will check soon.

If you do get a one of the new 2019 SHIELD TVs, let us know if it can be configured to work for 4K24 Dolby Vision displays like the LG 6 series.

I agree with you 1000% Epedemic! It IS nonsense! I even tried to make that point to Google support, the fact that it once WORKED PERFECTLY!!!! They did not seem to believe me.

The problems I was having were not only with the CCU however. I was noticing strange behavior from apps on my Fire TV as well. For example, the MA app on FTV said " this device does not support 4k playback" ???? I opened up support cases with everybody I could think of: Vudu, Netflix, Google, Amazon, Movies Anywhere, Fox Sports, etc.

With the release of "The Mandalorian" on the horizon, i really wanted to get these problems fixed, and I had a gut-feeling that the 2016 LG tv was reaching it's limit as far as the 60Hz problem was concerned. Obviously LG can't fix that, and it seems app developers and device manufacturers dont care, they just point the finger at LG.

So I went out and got a new TV ( yes, i absolutely hated to do it, turned my stomach for about 24 hours just thinking about it ). But as soon as the 2019 LG was hooked up, all these problems went away. Vudu and Netflix started working properly again ( on both CCU and Fire TV ). MA started working properly, even though their DV support is very limited.

One key thing also occurred, the Fox Sports app on FTV started recognizing that I had a 4k TV and started showing the "4kHDR" icon for certain football games. ( completely not related to DV at all!!! ) For the first time, i was able to watch a football game in 4k!

    I hope this info helps....

These new statements from Google are complete nonsense, as 4K+DV+24hz have been working from 2016 until now on the exact same hardware combination. Also the LG 2016 TV's have not recieved FW updates in ages to change this. Google is to blame, with some software crap they implemented in recent firmwares. Of course they should not roll back firmwares on our Chromecasts, but they should roll back the specific changes THEY made to that part of the firmware in the next release....

Also funny that they have always claimed that the CCU does not support 24hz, when the current situation gives us 1080p+DV in... you guessed it: 24hz

They should come around once the issue gets the attention of an actual competent sw engineer who knows his stuff and actually understand what we mean.

"Your Chromecast Ultra does not support a 4k video running on 24Hz. The minimum that it can support are 4k video running on 50Hz and 60Hz that is the main reason why you are having issue playing a 4k video. "

    and

"Google Chromecast Ultra does not support 24Hz, most likely the reason you were able to play a 4k video under 24Hz before was most likely your TV was able to adapt and overide the 24Hz and adapt to Chromecast video codecs. "

The latest from Google CCU support:

"Upon checking the current firmware version of your Google Chromecast Ultras is the most updated one. Which is may no longer compatible with the software of your TV. That's is why you are experiencing this issue, can you check with LG if they have upcoming software update available for your TV. Since the current firmware version on your Chromecast Utlra is compatible to almost every 4k TV that was recently release.

I suggest, try using the Chromecast Ultra on a different 4k TV just for us to isolate the issue. Regarding your question on reversing the update, I'm afraid we can't undo the update. "

So what they are saying is we are SOL and this will be broken forever for all 2016 LG owners.

Thanks for the update "man"! I have also been hounding Google for an update but their Chromecast support is a bit of a mess.

As of this date, the issue is still occurring. My CCU is in the preview program, and there has not been an update as of yet. Fingers crossed, as I am in the same boat being unable to watch my VUDU library in 4K with Dolby Atmos audio.
