New Sony XBR55X950H TV No DD 5.1 through Optical Out on Vudu App Only?

Hi, I just got this Sony TV and I have missed Vudu for almost a year since support was stopped on my Panasonic Smart BluRay Player. Question, I was testing some of my content which the Vudu app on the Panasonic BluRay played 5.1 out through the optical just fine, I tried some movies and shows with my TV apps, the picture is amazing, however, the best I could do was PCM or DD 2.0/Prologic. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu all give me my DD 5.1 through the T.V.'s optical out, am I missing something here?

Thank you, glad to know it's not my setup, I'm wondering how many people actually use a 5.1 or greater setup? We must be in the minority as I haven't heard much about it and I have had the T.V. since Halloween.

I have a Sony XBR-49X830C and I also have this problem. It worked fine a few weeks ago and now no more surround. I also have to use optical out to my receiver due to its age. Hope they fix it cause I don't want to update my hardware.

I'm wondering if the Xbox has an older version of the app? I had the same issue with Amazon last night, but I was able to roll back the app to when I got the T.V. and get back the DD 5.1.

I'm wondering if this is an issue through HDMI as well. They make HDMI audio splitters which will pull from the HDMI and send to optical for less than $30, so if the HDMI works, we may need to go that route.

I ended up buying a Roku Ultra (on sale for $69 during black friday) and plugging that into my tv, keeping the optical output to my receiver. The last android update to my tv has made all apps and menus sluggish. The Roku is much faster with more apps. It seems that any device plugged into the tv is able to output dolby 5.1 to the optical output. So essentially I'm bypassing all apps loaded on the tv.

I was just talking to a friend about this, he doesn't have a 5.1 system, but he got the Roku Ultra stick because he was having trouble getting 4K with the TV apps. I was going to borrow his stick since he has a lot of VUDU content and see if I can get the 5.1, thanks for the confirmation!
