Unable to stream using AT&T 21 mbps

    Greetings,

When trying to stream a Vudu movie via AT&T internet connection providing 21 mbps, I receive "Insufficient Network Speed" messages. For the few seconds the movie plays, the streaming quality indicator in the upper right corner of the screen shows two of four bars. A speed test verifies 21 mbps. And when I run the Vudu connection test, it shows a perfect test result and recommends HDX quality. However, when I try to run HDX, I receive the Insufficient Network Speed message. Even if I lower the streaming quality to standard definition, I usually cannot play it. To connect the Oppo player to the network, I have used both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, with neither working. I can stream Netflix beautifully from the Oppo player, but not Vudu.

When I try to stream a Vudu movie from Vudu.com on my laptop via Wi-Fi, I get the same message.

Could AT&T the throttling Vudu? Or maybe some kind of incompatibility between AT&T and Vudu? Neither seem likely, but I am stumped on why this doesn't work. It's a shame to have a nice audio/video setup, a decent internet connection, a decent library of Vudu movies, AT&T's latest Gateway, and still not be able to watch Vudu movies. I have had AT&T out several times looking for the problem and then never seem to find anything wrong with their service.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use AT&T as well, and have used it on speeds from 18mbps up to 1gbps, and have never gotten that message from any device. I usually use either a game console, a blu-ray player, or the app directly on the TV, if I'm not using a computer or tablet. I'm sure since you've had a tech out already that you've done the whole reset modem, and it has probably been replaced as well just to make sure that wasn't the issue. I don't know what's causing the issue for you, just wanted to let you know it wasn't AT&T throttling the stream to VUDU.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like you have great success with AT&T and Vudu. I sure don't understand why I have the opposite experience. I can rarely get a movie to play. I am using an Oppo BDP-93 Blu-Ray device connected by Ethernet. I have also tried using this device connected by Wi-Fi. I also try streaming to my MacBook Pro via Wi-Fi. None of which work.

You are 100% correct in that AT&T has sent out around five tech guys over the years to try and figure out my issue. They have replaced the Gateway several times, changed connections at the box on the side of my home, and changed connections at the junction box somewhere in the neighborhood. In the past, it seems to work more often than not while they are here during the day. However, in the evening everything goes to crap again. Now, it seems to have gone to crap during the day as well, so it might be time to get them out again. It sure seems strange that the speed test shows things are fine, Netflix streams fine, Amazon Prime streams fine, but Vudu doesn't stream at all. Very weird!!!!

Re: Unable to stream using AT&T 21 mbps

I tried to play a Vudu movie again tonight and it cannot play. I don't get why Vudu movies work so terrible for me. I have 21mbps with AT&T, I'm using an Oppo Blu-Ray player to (attempt) to stream. The software is current on the Oppo. Amazon Prime and Netflix movies stream absolutely perfect. It is just Vudu that refuses to function properly. The Vudu movies cannot play on my MacBook Pro either. So, it doesn't seem to be AT&T's problem, and it doesn't seem to be the equipment I'm using. It seems to be a problem with Vudu? Damn, this is irritating!!! The streaming quality indicator in the upper right corner will fluctuate between all four bars, down to one bar. When it gets down to only one or two bars, the buffering starts. After it buffers several times, the movies stops with an error message stating "insufficient network speed". I can run several speed tests that state s solid 21 mbps. If anyone has any ideas of what to do, or who to contact, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
