Rights to movies are not by device....are you sure that you are not doing some kind of filtering that would hide the movie from you?

Actually... you can't view Disney content on Boxee.

As for Pale Rider, it's one of the few movies that cannot be viewed on Roku due to an encoding issue with the movie. Roku can't playback the content because of that.

When will this get corrected? I use Roku on one of my televisions and I expect all the movies I purchase to be able on all my devices unless Vudu tells me otherwise...and so far I have never been told otherwise.

We can ask for another re-encode but I think it's been done already. I'll put in a ticket.

Re: Movie Pale Rider does not show up on Roku

I entered a case for this earlier this week because I too am missing Pale Rider on both of my Roku devices along with the additional four movies:

              Mars Attacks!
              Scooby-Doo and the Samurai Sword
              Dial M For Murder
              Blood Work

Please try to get these movies "fixed" or whatever needs to happen so we have access to movies that we've purchased.

I submitted a ticket as well, I have found that Maverick (1994 with Mel Gibson) does not show up either on Roku. Oddly as well, if you search in the Vudu app on the Roku the movie does not come up either.

Re: Movie Pale Rider does not show up on Roku

It appears it has to do with the audio encoding on some of the files. I got the following back from Vudu support:

The reason for the issue, is that the Roku device is unable to read AAC audio files, which some of our content is encoded in. This has resulted in our content team going through and re-encoding the content that has AAC audio files, so that they can be compatible with the Roku devices for our customers.

They say that they are working on it and should be resolved but there's no time table on when.

Actually, it's the reverse Roku can't decode DD/DD+ so we encode an AAC track as well. Apparently there is some issue with the DD+ track for that movie preventing the AAC encode from working, so the content team needs to get corrected source from the studio.

I was told that they are working on getting new copies of this and the other movies from the studios. There are a few movies that don't show up on Roku.

I have noticed this too. I have a couple of different streaming players that I use including the Roku, I recently purchased Falling Down and it shows up on the website and on other players, but not Roku. I don?t know if it is a thing regarding licensing rights or what have you, but it would seem to me that if you purchase a movie that you own, you should be able to have access to it regardless on what platform you're accessing the service. I always buy movies to own on Vudu, so I can understand how it can be irritating.

I love the Roku and I believe it is the best streaming device out there, but it does have it's drawbacks, which has resulted in me buying different players from Roku's competitors. Hopefully, Roku will be able to solve those drawbacks as more and more people turn to Internet streaming. As for me, I will continue to test out streaming devices and match it up against what Roku has to offer. In terms of channels I do believe that Roku has most competitors beat, but I think that might change in time.

It doesn't have anything to do with licensing. Roku simply cannot read the following digital movies at this time:

                          Pale Rider
                          Mars Attacks!
                          Scooby-Doo and the Samurai Sword
                          Dial M For Murder
                          Blood Work

And now you have identified a new one, Falling Down. Either Roku must fix the problem on their end or we have to wait for the studio to send Vudu a new encoded file that can be read by all devices. Either way, I wish they would get this done so we can access all our movies on all our devices. Seems like a simple thing to do.
