Vudu Video Player Crashing when Playing UHD films on XBOX One X (Playback Error)

Purchased all of these 4K films recently and had been watching them on Roku with no problem. Tried to play them on my XBOX One X and it attempts to play the video, screen flashes, then displayed a blue box that reads "Playback Error...Sorry, the video player has stopped working. Please try again. Anyone else having an issue? My Sony Bravia 43x800D TV plays 4K, HDR Blu-rays in the XBOX One X with no problems. The TV is capable of playing 4K at 60hz.

What titles are showing this behavior?
What's your Xbox One X software version?

I am having the same issue on my XBOX One X. I can play all my Vudu videos from the XBOX app with the exception of two videos that are UHD - my only UHD videos. I get an error that says, "Sorry, the video player has stopped working. Please try again.

I too am having this problem. I was able to play UHD titles up until a few days ago. I have realized that if I disable HDR 10 in the Xbox settings, I can then play my VUDU UHD titles, without HDR of course.

Devices in use are below. I have updated, reset all devices to factory settings, used different HDMI cables and ensured all ports are HDCP 2.2 compatible. Have any advice?

        Xbox One S

        Pioneer VSX-LX503 Receiver

        Optoma UHD60

          Hi Zzues,

I'm not sure if it's possible, but could you try bypassing the receiver temporarily? If you can connect the Xbox directly to your projector and HDR10 works that will give us a starting point. Also, I'm sending you a private message with some additional information.

Having the same issue on an Xbox One X with HDR on or off. Same account with a XBox One S works with HDR OFF, but not with HDR on.

Is there a beta update I can try?

If you go over to Xbox forums thousands of people are having the same problems. It appears to happen when Dolby Atmos is engaged , once I get the message Dolby Atmos on my sound bar I get a couple of seconds of a black screen and then a error message .

You're still having this issue today? Are you seeing the problem with other apps or only within Vudu?

I called in to support on this, and it's a Microsoft issue. Seems their Vudu servers crashed and they are trying to bring them back online. No ETA that I heard of, but I took the rare step of looking at other apps for playback this evening..
