The video encoding is exactly the same as with all VUDU HDX titles, so any difference seen would be due to hardware/bandwidth limitations or imagined
Jake, thanks for the quick reply! These two statements above seem (to me) to conflict somewhat. If you're not storing a separate AppleTV-friendly version of the encoding on your servers, why aren't all HDX titles supported? What needs to be done on your end to add support for the older titles?

The encoded video is the same, but the packaging (HLS) and encryption (Fairplay DRM) are different.

Does it work like "casting" where the Apple TV pulls the data directly, or is the data passing through the iOS device?

With AirPlay streaming the ATV streams the content directly.

I was very pleased to see the AirPlay feature in the latest 5.0 update. Thank you very much for that!!!!

Are there any plans to proceed with a actual Apple TV (ATV4) app instead of having to use my iPhone for VUDU playback?

              Re: Apple TV App Please!

They would have to get the most of the catalog updated with FairPlay DRM before they make an APP. That would take a while, but I really hope they do it, soon.

Air Play Streaming is a nice touch....but pretty much still requires ME to be the one to get a movie playing. TVOS app would be great for the less technically savvy family members. Can't count on everyone using an iPhone to start their movie.

One of the best selling streamers out there is the Chromecast which works the same way. Heck my brand new TV is Cast enabled and touts you using your phone as a remote as a feature. Definitely would like a native TV app though...

Apple TV 4 is amazing. Hopefully Vudu & Apple cut a deal one day. Would make my streaming solution complete.

This is really needed, especially since Apple has chosen to not support Ultraviolet.

Yeah where is the app Jake? The new Apple TV with the App Store has only been out for over a year now. Why the current implementation of the iOS app hasn't just been ported over to tvOS is downright perplexing. I don't need to be able to purchase or rent. Just stream.

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times - if just a watch only Vudu app comes to the Apple TV... free pizza party for the entire Vudu team. I'll throw in beer and soda.

                              Think about it.

                                Re: Apple TV App Please!

Want to keep this short, because I'm hoping that someone with some make change power will read it, but at the same time I want to take sometime to communicate to VUDU. I hope that VUDU will communicate back.

I have had the new Apple TV, 4th Generation, since it came out at the end on 2015. One of my main hopes was that it would someday soon after release date would have a VUDU app. We are now approaching the 1 1/2 year mark and still no Apple TV app from VUDU. From the little research that I've done, I found that Apple isn't refusing to allow VUDU to have an Apple TV app. It's VUDU that hasn't had the resolve to get it done.

I really like the VUDU streaming service and I have over 1000 movies, not including the TV episodes. Whatever the reason/s are that there isn't a VUDU app, I do believe that it is a poor decision to not develop/support a dedicated Apple TV app. As a VUDU customer, I think that I have been patient in waiting for an Apple TV app.

Here's what I think should happen:
                                1. VUDU give it's customers a reason why an Apple TV has not been released. It is poor communication to not have given your customers a reason this long after Apple TV 4th generation platform was released. No lies or stupid excuses. If its because you don't like Apple, if it's because you don't care, if it's because of money revenue that would be lost, and that is the actual truth then let us know. I don't think there is an actual good excuse, but I would really like to know the real reason/s that it hasn't happened. I believe there are many other customers that would like to know also.
                                2. Give us a maybe app release date if there is one, if there just isn't going to be an Apple TV app, or you have no plans to release one at anytime in the near future, then give us the common courtesy of basic communication and let us know. I have been checking the Apple TV app store search and Google search periodically for so long trying to find out if there is any new hope that the VUDU app will release that I am actually sick of it. Also, it angers me that I having to take the time to request something that should have already happened. I think that it's a reasonable expectation that there should already be a VUDU Apple TV app and it's very unreasonable that VUDU hasn't made it happen already.
                                3. Bypass the first two and just give us VUDU users a nice big surprise and release the app now. It really doesn't make any good sense, to probably a majority of us, why you haven't already. I bet you would be surprised as to how many of your VUDU customers would appreciate it. Plus haven't you read the other posts, I saw promises of beer and food to VUDU execs to make it happen. Come on now, do something good for your loyal customers.
