    Re: Apple TV App Please!

Come on VUDU. I have content from you that is not available because of the hardware I purchased. This seems pretty silly. Get an App for the new Apple TV please!

I 100% agree with this. It's kind of ridiculous to only have an app for the mobile devices in my opinion

Mum seems to be the word from any Ultraviolet supported service. It sure would be nice if one of the services were to come up with an Apple TV app. At the very least, an explanation would surely be appreciated.

+1 for this. Huge oversight, especially since I've heard that the latest Vudu app for iOS now doesn't allow Airplay? WTF??

            Re: Apple TV App Please!

I was really optimistic when I got an Apple TV 4th generation because it sounded like they were going to open up their ecosystem. This really feels like Apple is preventing it because by now I would have expected to see one of the UV providers have an app presence there; however, its curious that neither side seems to want to give an explanation. I can only assume Apple doesn't want competition for content ownership on their platform. At this point my hope is fading and it looks like I will need to maintain two devices....

I'd be happy with an appletv app that just has the ability to stream the content and I continue to purchase from another medium if having another storefront is this issue.

I'd be really happy if a connector to UV could be implemented by Apple that like the DMA connector just asks UV what you already own and then allow it to be played via iTunes.

As a consumer this multiple device and content provider business is as bad as the industry fights of physical media of yesteryear (Betamax v vhs, DVD v divx, bluray v HD, etc). As a consumer if I own a licensed DVD I should be able to go to any DVD player and play it-- I don't need a Sony, LG, Panasonic, etc version of that DVD to play it on a specific player- its just a DVD.
This digital model has created an ecosystem where you need a specific player and a specific chosen content provider. If I own the digital copy of a movie it should be equivalent to owning the physical media (legal agreements aside) - I should be able to play that from any source and not be forced into specific devices. This current model requires for to be device agnostic that you purchase the device numerous times so you can have it in iTunes, UV, Amazon, Google, etc- which makes zero sense and it makes it very confusing for consumers and is a real obstacle in widespread adoption.

I don't think we can make the assumption to blame Apple yet. I don't think Vudu even has an Android TV app yet, unless it came out recently. Flixster, MGo and Cinemanow are all in transition. Have to give it more time and see what happens, but yes it is disappointing.

I don't think the Vudu app ever had true airplay. You could do screen mirroring at one point.

True Airplay streaming with HD for iOS & ATV are in the works for 2016. I imagine a full Apple TV app will happen eventually but it's not as much of a priority given that Apple basically prevents 3rd parties from selling movies in their apps.

                      Re: Apple TV App Please!

Good to know. I would love to have just one Device to stream all my content from. Especially, because my TV has a problem that prevents me from changing inputs. I have to unplug the TV, change the cable, then plug the TV back in. Such a hassle.

First, thanks for the update and I hope to see Vudu player for Apple TV one day.

Technically they do not prevent 3rd parties from selling movies, they just demand 30% of each item sold.

I also completely understand why companies like Vudu do not want to do that, why should Apple get 30% from Vudu just because I'm using an iPhone. 30% is a pretty steep tax just for using Apple's in-app purchasing services.

                          Re: Apple TV App Please!

My argument for Vudu doing a view only tvOS app (where consumers would make purchases via a web browser to skirt the fee) is that anyone using Vudu is a UV user, so they would have no problem going out of their way to make additional purchases via Vudu, instead of iTunes, even if Apple made it harder to do. It certainly would be less inconvienent than screening around with AirPlaying anything...

That 15% is only for subscription services such as HBONow and Netflix. It's unconfirmed if that would apply for Transactional VOD. But I agree with your premise. And Vudu would attract new users being on the AppleTv, since Apple TV users who usually purchase from iTunes would instead be able to use UV codes and Disc to digital without having to buy a seperate streaming device.

I agree with everyone else...can't believe it isn't there already. I really wish Vudu would get this released. I prefer to stick with them for my movies, but may have to start using iTunes.

That's exactly what Apple hopes you do. They want to charge 30% from each transaction made on their platform. That is a bit steep. That's probably what's preventing from a full featured Vudu app from appearing on iOS. I don't blame Vudu for this.
