Vudu UHD on Roku Ultra glitch in video

For months now the Vudu app on Roku has been glitchy when playing UHD titles. Randomly during playback there will be quick colorful glitches in the video. Artifacts and tearing in the video. This might happen a few times during a movie. Sometimes it will also drop all audio and freeze the video. This usually causes the Roku to reboot.

I'm running the latest Roku Ultra on the latest software. I have reinstalled the Vudu app.

I have zero issues streaming the same movies via Movies Anywhere or other services like ATV+ or Disney+.

Vudu used to be the most reliable but it?s gone downhill.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Net,

Sorry for the trouble you're seeing. I have the same Roku at home and haven't seen the issue you're describing. Maybe we can help. Could you tell me the following?
    • Which HDR movies? All, or is there a particular one you've seen it wth most?
    • What is the model number of the TV you're using?
    • Are you connected via a sound bar or an audio/video receiver?
    • What is your Video output setting on the Roku?
    • Could you tell me the information listed in Vudu-->Settings? (Client Version, Vudu UI Version)

Seems to affect all the recent UHD HDR movies we've watched:
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
      Knives Out
      Midway
      Ford v Ferrari

My setup is: Roku Ultra -> Denon X2400H -> Sony X930E. All premium HDMI cables. Comcast internet 300Mbps.
      Everything running the latest software.

Video output on the Roku is 4K HDR at 60Hz.

      UI version: 4.4.01H (315518)
      Embedder Version: 469.20E05003A
      Client SDK: 3.1.0 (rev 302814)
      Streamer version: Ips.19.01.31:276522-T1
      Streamer version: Ips-d.19.11.11:308475-m

This is a fairly new issue within the last few months. No changes have happened in my setup - no new devices or connections.

My Roku is 4670X running 9.2.0.5003. Don't believe it's updated in a while.

It's also completely random - and doesn't happen again if I rewind. As I mentioned, we've actually gone and watched some of these on other services MA, Disney+ without issues.

We also watch a lot of HDX TV shows via Vudu and so far haven't had any issues with those. Seems to me that's it's fairly limited to UHD titles.

Is it possible to bypass your AVR and connect the Roku directly to your TV for testing? Since it's random i know this may not be easy to reproduce. I'll add some logging to your Vudu account so that we can try capture the issue on our side. If you happen to see the problem, just take note of the time and let me know. Could you send me a private message sharing your Vudu email address with me so that i can add the the logging to your device.

        Thanks,
        Dan
