VUDU App Quits on Roku When Playing Fear The Walking Dead

Hopefully someone can help me out here. The issue I'm having is when I attempt to play any episode of 'Fear The Walking Dead', on my Roku 4 VUDU unexpectedly quits (no buffering or connection issue) and returns to the Roku's home screen. I purchased a season pass and I've now had issues with episodes 1 and 2. In attempt to troubleshoot the matter, I tried to play an episode on a Roku 3 that's downstairs (same account) and continued to have the same issue. It happens whether I click resume from 'My Watchlist' or navigate and select the show un 'My TV'. It will play for about 6 - 9 seconds then the VUDU app quits.

The Roku software is up-to-date on both models. I also disconnected the device from my account, removed the Vudu app from Roku, re-installed the Vudu app on Roku, and logged back in, yet I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Here is where it gets interesting: I was at a friend's house last night and asked them to buy just episode 2 in HDX to see if it it would play - and it did. No issues whatsoever.

I have always used Roku for streaming VUDU however I do have a PS4 so I logged in VUDU (on PS4) and attempted to play the show. No issue at all. Played straight through.

I can't figure this out for the life of me - any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll try to replicate this issue and take if from there. What device did you test this on at your friend's house?

Can you DM me your email address on Vudu? I'm not seeing Fear of the Walking Dead on the account with the email address used on this forum.

        Hi FelipeF,

They have an earlier model of the Roku 3 - the model that doesn't have voice search intergrated into remote. Thanks for looking into this, certainly appreciate the help!

So far my Roku has yet to crash. I'm using a Roku 3 and currently streaming Fear The Walking Dead Season 1 Episode 1 in HDX. On what episodes are you experiencing the crashing on?

Initially I had issues with the first episode and the second episode was giving the same issues. I'm beginning to think this issue is somehow related to my account. What's odd is the fact I'm able to play all other TV shows without the issue. Can issues like this be specific to a particular account? Thanks for the help.

It's unlikely to be with an account - more likely it would be due to differences in your ISP bandwidth that is triggering an obscure bug when streaming, or an issue with your specific Roku4 hardware. We are still investigating and trying to reproduce it.

We are having the same problem using a Roku 3. Trying to watch Fear The Walking Dead season 2 episode 2. We watched the first 10 to 15 minutes, then all of a sudden it crashed out to the Roku home screen. When we tried to continue the episode, it would play 5 to 10 seconds before crashing again. I then switched it to play in HD (instead of HDX), and it seemed to play fine, until it crashed about 5 minutes later. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's played in HDX or HD, it still won't play without crashing. We have been using Vudu (through the same Roku 3 device) for a year and a half now, and we've never had this happen.

Supergirl Episode 20 last week did this same thing to me. I really thought a neighbor had a universal remote and was messing with me. I can check when I get home to see if it does the same thing. It was on a Roku 4.

Having the exact same thing happen on a Roku 4 while attempting to watch Deadpool. App will just close and send me back to the Roku home screen. Has happened about 4 times in the first hour of watching the film.

Does this happen during a specific part of the movie?

A couple questions for anyone who had been seeing crashed on Roku:

                            - are you using stereo or surround passthrough (DD+) for audio?
                            - what video qualities did you see it with? (I saw one mention of HD as well as HDX)
                            - can you provide your Roku firmware version? I think it's in System > About on Roku main menu.
