    PS4 jerky video.

I know not everyone has this issue, but I can not figure out why I am. I have the PS4 running wired on a 150Mbs (paid for that speed, usually higher) service, see attached image for speed test. When I watch Vudu, the video is jerky, like short pauses frequently. Enough to be annoying. Now all my other devices, even the Xbox One in the same room is wired and the video on that plays smooth. All other video apps on the PS4 do not have this issue, just VUDU. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what could be causing this?

    Hi,

You should not ever see "jerky" video from lack of bandwidth - if the video "underruns" (runs out of download buffer) you will see a very noticeable spinner/buffering screen. I have a PS4 at home and have never seen what you describe - it's not expected to happen...

    A few questions:

    - has it done this over multiple days or just one day? (Maybe there was some PS4 background task/download that randomly caused it?)
    - Is this a PS4 or PS4 Pro? Do you have PSVR/any other unusual peripherals plugged in?
    - Are you going through a receiver or directly to a TV?

Also, if you PM me your VUDU login, I can have someone take a look at your streaming/logs to see if we can find anything unusual.

It's just a normal ps4. Only thing hooked into it is the adapter for the wireless headset which is the Sony brand. It has been happening quite often, and for a few months at least. It's going through a Reciever, but so is the xbox. When I log off and go on my xbox it's perfect. There has been times when it doesn't happen but more often than not it does. It's odd since no other device in our house does this with Vudu.

I discussed with VUDU QA and they have never seen anything like what you describe, so I don't think it's an issue with the app or the content. And as I mentioned network issues would not cause this.

Hate to blame the hardware, but for now that's the best guess we have. Could you try using a different HDMI cable? (or even better, swap the Xbox HDMI cable & receiver input so the PS4 is using that). It might rule out a faulty cable or receiver input/HDMI port, at least.

Yah I will try swapping the cable with the Xbox, however I do not see how the Cable would only affect the VUDU app and not netflix/hulu. I'll get back when I try it. Oh, and during the timeframe it has been doing this I have changed receivers, I was hoping that would fix it but the new receiver does the same thing.

Another thought is the output mode(s) over HDMI - are you outputting 1080p/60 to the receiver? And you may want to experiment with audio mode, passthrough vs PCM, etc. It's possible something weird with that is causing jitter. Different apps may use different video resolutions/audio codecs, etc. Still guessing here, though.
