He said that it's being worked on. What more do you want? It's the holiday season and I highly doubt they are going to rush out an update before it's ready. As for Apple's video requirements, I'll take Jake's word on that. There is a lot of work that has to be done to keep video content in-line with tvOS requirements and design standards. Take a look at this video and supporting documentation if you want to learn more.

Would also like to know the progress on UHD for the ATV App.

Also, any progress on the following:

    - search still broken if using a universal remote
    - no autoplay settings when watching TV shows
    - wishlist seems flaky and not tied to the account but the device (unlike other Vudu apps)
    - no support for chapters when playing a video

I'm sure the need to reencode is a dot in the story, its just not all the dots. Whatever Apple needs again is not a secret. When VUDU made a decision to make their current files they decided to make them a certain way not APPLE. VUDU decided to include "this" and not "that". Now they have to go back and add "that", Apple's stuff, as just having "this" is not enough.

Well that's not on APPLE. That's on VUDU. Those files could have been made with both "this" and "that" from the get go. Knowing as we do none of "this" or "that" is any secret.

If its just re-encoding get started and bring files on line as they are made so the Apple TV 4K is happy. I've messed with making video files for some time. Its not THAT hard to do. And I'm sure VUDU has the hardware that I do not. Prioritize them based on viewership. Like do Wonder Woman way before you do Liar Liar.

Making the lack of 4K files available for the AppleTV 4K while its easy to point at Apple that does not seem to me to be correct. We're missing information. "Its Apple" doesn't wash. Feels to me its VUDU and Apple is a convenient scapegoat.

Sorry but that can't be the complete story. A totally different format? For what? Audio and video codecs are not up for grabs, they are standardized. ROKU already does UHD with VUDU. Apple can't be making up its own codecs. They aren't licensed from Apple. Apple licenses them from the same folks ROKU does, etc.

Something is being left out of that explanation. May not want to explain the whole story but that explanation is missing some dots.
I believe Apple requires any stream to be HLS and I?m guessing Vudu has its other apps setup differently. I don?t know anything for sure.

Vudu app on ATV maxes at HDX right now. So ATV upscaling everything.

@Jake mentioned about it a couple posts back
For the most part the video quality should be identical (any differences would be due to the player/decoder hardware). The biggest differences for HDX are completely different "packaged"/streaming format and different DRM, rather than the video itself - for the most part it's "Apple, and everyone else"

For UHD it gets a bit more complicated, as Apple's UHD/Dolby Vision is a different format from what we have been using - requiring complete re-encodes, etc. As you can imagine, that's a lot more than just adding UHD to an app UI. But we're working on it.

Still no HDX in some episodes in The Little House in the Prairie and it's been about 3.5 months since this Vudu app became available on the Apple TV (4th Gen and 4k). Some episodes are still playing in SD in my Apple TV 4k but on my PC's Vudu app in Windows 10 those same episodes play in HDX but I rather not use my PC for streaming (I don't find it user friendly) and I don't want to buy another streaming box as this TV show is the only thing I watch through Vudu currently and buying another streaming box I think is overkill just so that I can watch every episode in HDX in a user friendly interface.

Meaning the issues didn't need an updated version of the app? I've been waiting for the app to update before using again, so assumed nothing was fixed.

    Any word on UHD support?
