Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

I would like to see the ability to allow a user to quickly choose to either resume or start from the beginning a movie that was previously being watched but not finished.

I can confirm that search does not work. It doesn't appear to do anything when you click letters.

Search works just fine for me...

I might as well list my most wanted feature of Vudu, and it could be said for it on any device really... the option to "resume play" or "play from beginning" when I start a movie. You can do it through Watchlist after all...

Love the app, just a few things I thought I'd mention.

As others have pointed out, something weird is happening with the audio on some movies. It has this strange echo and sounds muffled at the same time, almost like it is a low quality mp3. This doesn't happen on all my movies. I check about 10 or 12 movies and think I noticed a pattern. Audio sounded fine on The Force Awakens, Up, Life of Pi and Rogue One. Everything else I tired was messed up.

What I noticed was that anything that had the audio listed in the details as "Dolby Digital Plus 5.1" would have the problem. Movies listed as "Dolby Digital Plus" or "Dolby Digital 5.1" would sound fine.

Also, I'm not sure if it is just in my mind or not, but the video quality doesn't look as good as HDX normally looks IMO. I don't think it is my bandwidth because I can watch UHD movies on Vudu just fine through my Roku TV app and iTunes movies on the AppleTV look better as well. Seems like HDX just never kicks in all the way through the ATV Vudu app.

Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

So now that I have had time to actually use the app, there are a few suggestions I would like to provide.
            1. Group TV shows together. I have a LOT of TV shows and it is a big pain to scroll around and find what I am looking for.
            2. Up next should include the next episode after I have completed a show in a TV series.
            3. It would be SOOO cool if you could add the episode to up next if I have a season pass and a new episode is released.
            4. Search does not work for me either. I have a logitech remote, so I am not using the official apple remote. It just clicks and the button on screen presses down, but nothing actually happens.
            5. More sorting options would be great, but the main ones are there.
            6. Un-group the movie bundles. But this is a bigger Vudu issue and not just apple TV. I hate having movies in the bundle... I basically need movies and TV to be exactly opposite on bundling.
            7. Sound is not right, but you have identified an issue and I am looking forward to the fix!

Thank you to all who worked on this app! It is such a good starting point.

I also have the issue with sound obviously as everyone else. Infuse is another app on the Apple TV that does support DolbyDigital+ along with TrueHD and DTS-MA so it's definitely possible.

Another request I have is chapter support. I use chapters a lot and they are available on the swipe down menu in most apps but nothing in the Vudu app.

                LOVE IT! Thank you!

Need help with rentals, I'd like to see the number of days left on the screen with them (same for mobile app).

Really would like also like RENTALS as a menu option on the left (same for mobile app).
Make it easier to see my rentals and I might rent more from the web, if it's inconvenient to play them I'm not sure why I'd bother to rent them?

Would love integration with the TV app ("up next" especially!).

I agree with some of the comments on real estate, give me an extra column of movies.

An option to preload (pre-download) a movie or two would be great for people with slow connections. The AppleTV has 32GB - 64GB of storage, it'd be great to click download and keep one or two on the device (I have friends up north that only have 1Mbps speed!).

The current Apple TV (4th generation) doesn't support local storage; it only supports as little as 500KB for local persistent data. The space 32G/64GB are for App installation which are also limited to 200MB. Hope the next gen Apple TV can unlock the limit of local storage usage.

Another thing I've found in using the app, Special Features/Extras are there when you click on a movie, but if you try to play them you get an error saying content is not available.

That doesn't seem right. BUT I'm not asking for the data to stay for ever (persistent), it could easily be purged when TvOS asks for it. I'm not going to complain if it gets wiped, but with a 64GB box (with 20GB free), I'd hope it stays around for a little bit to watch the movie later).

I'm 100% certain I've uploaded a few videos to VLC in the past (via http) and they stayed in the app for a while.

I just checked and there is a still a 110 minute HD movie (over 3GB) in my VLC app on my AppleTV from February that still plays (I've rebooted and I'd have to think updated software since then).

Again, I don't care if it's persistent (I don't need it to last 6 months!), I'm just looking for / suggesting a better experience for people with a slower connection.

Re: Apple TV - Feedback and technical support

Some other major interface issues I want to bring Up.

                        1. There appears to be only 2 FF/RW speeds and the fastest isn't fast enough.
                        2. There appears to be no way to pick a spot/chapter to jump to in a movie or more importantly, no way to start a movie over. This combined with#1 makes it really annoying to get back to the beginning of a partially watched movie.
                        3. You can't watch the trailers for movies you own. Odd as this sounds, I user this a lot when trying to decide what to watch with other people.

If you can address the search issue, the sound issue, and these, there app will be a really solid choice.

1&2. With ATV4 there are no speeds for FF/RW - you click the trackpad and the speed you go back or forth depends on how fast you move your thumb. You can go very slowly or you can speed through the entire length of a movie in about 1 second. To start a movie over from any spot, you would simply click the trackpad and flip your thumb to the left. Viola!

                          3. That's true that there is no button for a trailer of a purchased movie, but all you would have to do is hit the Siri button and say "search YouTube for 'Wonder Woman' trailer" and it will begin playing. What makes that even easier is you don't even need to go to the movie's page first!

Thanks for the replies but unfortunately those solutions are of no help to users of a universal remote. I have no desire to user a dedicated remote and neither does my family.

Maybe the FF/RW issue is an apple limitation but it would be great if Vudu could code their app to allow four different FF speeds.

If not then the design choice is well within Vudu to allow for a skip to chapter interface, start movie over option, and display the trailer option.

I think Vudu should consider these enhancements for users of Vudu on ATV that use universal remotes.

And I could swear I was seeing 2 FF/RW speeds. I'll check again

                              Further clarifications.

There are in fact 2 discernable FF/RW speeds when using my Logitech Harmony elite remote and the ATV Vudu app. I don't know if this is an Apple thing or a Vudu thing but my suggestions above apply.

Second, there IS a start movie over option, but only when you access the movie from the watch list. When you access the exact same movie from the general list, you only get a watch option which only resumes from the previous point. Definite room for UI improvement here. Anywhere you access a movie should have the option to either stay over our resume.

The playback control on Vudu app is using Apple's default playback, which is used among other apps such as Netflix. The playback control is designed to work well with Apple's Siri Remote. With gestures on the touch pad, users can skip/FF/RW or start over easily without introducing extra buttons on control panel. We also consider users who are using universal controller. Thank you for the feedbacks for Start Over and Chapter Skip features, and we will definitely evaluate them into next version design.

What are your owned movies can't play trailer? We will investigate this issue thoroughly.
