Re: Closed-captioning / English subtitles please

I just got off the line with Vudu and found out that it's next to impossible to find a movie with subtitles (CC). First the movie has to have subtitles available and second, you need to have a device that has the subtitles capability in it. I just viewed the 1st "Lord of the Rings" extended edition movie last night on Vudu and it would have been great to have subtitles available on it but it didn't. Gollum is especially hard to understand without subtitles.

I've only read the summary of the law but as a layman, it looks like all streaming video will be required to have captioning eventually, but they are phasing in the requirements over the next few years. Whatever the case, if for some reason Vudu isn't required to caption and decides not to do so, but captioning is available through Flixster, CinemaNow, or some other UV partner, I'll probably abandon Vudu and my non-UV Vudu titles, and just start using one of the other services.

Since the new IOS client supports captions, I checked my movies, and these are shown to have captions:
        The Hobbit:An Unexpected Journey
        Perfect Storm
        Groundhog Day

Netflix and their expanded selection of movies and TV shows with closed captioning was a major selling point for someone that I know who is hard of hearing. As people view Vudu and other streaming services as the next logical step away from physical media they'll expect captions as they've had on DVD and Blu-ray for many years now.

I"m a new user to Vudu. I am very disappointed in lack of availability of cc. I am also not encouraged by reading the posts on the forum. Seems people have been asking for it since 2009, and not much has changed. Netflix and Apple TV are ahead of the game in this department.

PS. I am hearing impaired, but I know a lot of people with good hearing who like the cc to catch movies with rapid fire dialogue. The baby boomers are going to be a huge market for cc soon.

Closed captions are available on all new TV shows since 9/2012 on any devices that can support display of CC. We are actively working on making it available on all content (ie. older TV shows and movies), but it will be ongoing as that's a lot of content

I use it quite frequently for movies with actors with strong accents and movies with loud background noise. I find that more and more recent movies seem to have a lot of background noise that makes the dialog hard to hear. Also, movies such as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are hard to understand (at least for me) so I use CC.

Yeah, let me add my voice. I am hard of hearing and thought the movie that I ordered had CC. The have not done a very good job of either providing it or explaining how to activate it. Unlike Netflix and Hula.
