    Constant buffering

    Hi,

Bought a LG BD390 for the family at Christmas and have connected it up to our home wireless network. My near-by PC reports a 4.6mbit connection via speedtest.net, yet when I tried to rent our free movie last night (observe and report... don't bother) in HD (not HDX) it buffered almost constantly and was nearly unwatchable.

My Device ID is 96585. The BD390 has two bars of signal strength on the home wireless network. This evening I tried to watch a couple of trailers and am unable to do so. Sometimes when I start the service it fails completely.

    Netflix works fine.

    Help!

    Mark

Can you try it wired? Some folks on the AVS forum have found that switching from wireless to wired in the BD390 solves their issue.

Thanks for the reply. I could probably try it wired as an experiment, but I'll have a tough job convincing the wife that running Ethernet across the house is a justifable solution.

I had the very same problem with my Mitsubishi TV that came with VUDU. We got it as a Christmas gift to ourselves and this was the first time using VUDU. I have 12 meg internet and have an ethernet cable plugged directly into my TV from the Router.

        Any other ideas?

Watching the movie the other night was VERY FRUSTRATING. Almost not worth watching it AT ALL!

Were you able to test the BD390 with a hard-wired connection?

Any ideas here? What can be done to improve on the movie watching experience? We were watching in HD, not even the highest HDX.

                Hope this will help...

I had a hell of a time with this issue on my VUDU box with the Brazil beta software, which provides the streaming function similar to what is delivered to TV's......I think I solved the problem, I can stream with no problem now.....

                This is what I did:
1-downloaded and installed DNSBenchmark from the GRC(Gibson Research) website.

2-Ran program to find fastest DNS servers.

3-Changed my DNS settings on the WAN side of my router to the fastest ones given by DNSBenchmark(top of the list).

4-Gave my VUDU box a static IP address(an address outside my DHCP range).

5-Went to Info and Settings on box, went to manual settings, I put in the static IP, Gateway and DNS server were both my router's main IP....

                Then I had success....

After this I decided to try to purchase movies with the streaming service...What I found is movies I purchased were stored in "the cloud"...I could stream them at any time, it also had an option to download the movie to my box.....I found this to be very cool.......

I have the same problem using a wired connection. I am able to stream in HD, but not HDX. Can only use HDX when I go to the watch trailers tab. One small bar appears in the HDX connection, but it doesn't stutter or have constant buffering. I get 3 bars with the HD connection.

I have the same problem using an lg blu ray player. Quite annoying as many of us as posted above, do want to want to wire an ethernet through the house and many are not interested or talented enough to reconfigure a router.

Seems like this technology via wireless may not be up to prime time. Too bad because i really like the vudu web interface and the quality when working, is superior to netflix.

OTHO as most have said above. never seem to get buffering issues with netflix......

                      Re: Constant buffering

For a quality experience with the LG BD390 it is recommended that you use it wired. LG even put in an advisory message in their configuration screen about the performance of wireless with video content.

                      VUDU requires the following:

                      1 mbps - SD
                      2.25 mbps - HD
                      4.5 mbps - HDX

I can't speak for Netflix but based on what I read their encodes go from 500 to 3400 kbps and they use a 40% weighting factor so if you have 1.5 mbps down you wont see a stream from them higher then about 800 kbps which would put the stream into their 500 kbps category.

There are a lot of folks here that like the VUDU and maybe we can help you though your issues?

I purhcased the BD390 primarily to stream media and when I first set it up wirelessly my router only showed 30% of signal from the BD390 even though I was only about 40 ft' away from my router and only going though one wall. My laptop sitting next to the BD390 showed 90%. At that point I just decided to run another cable.
