    Vizio VBR220 - No YouTube?

Recently purchased the VBR220, love it, except, I don't have Youtube in the Vudu app. I have searched the forum and really don't get a definitive answer on whether YouTube is available on this particular Vizio with the Vudu embeded app or is Youtube not available at all on Vizio Blu-Ray players. Since I do have the Vudu app on the player, I assumed it is a Vudu question and not a Vizio question. Thanks in advance.

I have LG Bluray players with Vudu and YouTube is a peer app to Vudu and provided by LG with nothing to do with Vudu. I'm not positive but I believe that Vudu labs apps aren't available on embedded streaming devices and the apps that are included are the decision of the device manufacturer.

Thanks redwein, still not really clear, I do have Vudu labs on the device, just no youtube, is it the decision of the manufacturer to limit what specific apps in the labs Vudu can put on the machine, that would be strange, but I guess that is the reality of the situation.

I'm not really sure what the deal is. On the LG Bluray players, there is no Vudu Labs at all. I just assumed it wasn't available on the streaming devices but from what you say, that isn't correct. I do have YouTube and Picassa (along with CinemaNow and Netflix) but those are all peers to Vudu.

Redwein, I appreciate all your help so far, I am a newbie and am trying to take all this in and you have been a great help. I guess my confusion comes in, in the wording, some documentation says "Vudu Apps" and some says "Vudu Labs", I took them to be one in the same... That may be the issue, my player has "Vudu Apps", when I access it, it gives me: Vudu movies, flickr, Picasa, Facebook, twitter, Associated Press, Weather, Wikepedia, New York times and Stock Tracker. I thought maybe this is where I should have seen Youtube, I thought that maybe there was an update I needed to run, but I now understand that maybe it just isnt something I will have access to. I will contact Vudu and see if this might be a future enhancement.

Re: Vizio VBR220 - No YouTube?

Each vendor has a different mix of applications on bluray players with internet access. For instance Sony has youtube, but not vudu. Samsung has youtube, but not vudu. LG has youtube and vudu as separate apps. So this is not vudu's problem, it is vizio's. If vizio wished, they could add youtube as an app, but they don't currently offer it. Each vendor also has a variety of other applications.

I am considering getting a vbr220 because it has vudu, which my Sony lacks, and has NYTimes online.

Internet access from TV's and DVD players is pretty new, and things are changing fairly quickly. Some older DVD players with internet capability lack circuitry to update to Netflix.

Here is my take on the whole deal...let's look at it this way: google owns youtube. sony has a partnership w/ google so you find youtube and other google owned apps on their devices. Just like android powered devices are paired up with google, therefore they have youtube on them. VIZIO doesn't have a partnership w/ google in put to that the platform on their internet app televisions are supported by yahoo. As fast as technology changes and how often companies partner up it's very likely that future VIZIO products will team up with google and gain the advantages of that partnership like youtube and other google owned entities.
