    Sony BDP-S186

    Hi,

I hope this is the right board to ask this question.

A couple of weeks ago, I got above mentioned Sony BDP-S186 blu-ray player. I have never used VUDU before, but as the player supports it, I thought I'd give it a try. I was able to view movie trailers, I could search for titles, whatever. I then decided to sign up. I now have a VUDU account including payment information, everything is great.

Shortly after that, the player asked me if I wanted to install an online update - I let it proceed. Now when I open the player's VUDU "app", it tells me

"Connection failed. Please contact VUDU at http://support.vudu.com"

    "Detail: No provisionableDeviceInfo for INVALIDS"

"More info: Hardware id: INVALID SNYBM00 130F9ED 9A849A"

    "Software version: 3.0.0-80661-SystemDriverArm??? BD 1.0-86813"

(I wrote this as good as I could read this from my SD TV.)

Will this be fixed in near future, ie. will VUDU unlock this VUDU capable device together with its new firmware? Otherwise my trial period would have been mighty short.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Gero Z.

Sony will be pushing a firmware update shortly. We don't have an exact time just yet.

Nothing here yet, no new update from Sony. Is there any way for you to supply additional information about this?

The firmware has been pushed, so if you're still seeing this issue you may not have the latest firmware. Could you post your firmware information?

It's M09.R.0033, according to Sony dated Feb 1, installed on Feb 4 - then I contacted you, because that's when the trouble started.

The player tells me that it's already up to date, and at Sony.com, I don't see anything beyond this that I could install using a CDR.

The lastest firmware should be M09.R.0036.

I checked the S186, that seems to be a European model. The S185 is the version that has VUDU available.

Yes, the Sony BDP-S186 is the European model - for me and the other original poster. Le me tell you: VUDU was available. As I said - I could browse the VUDU pages, then I decided to join, then the update occured, and VUDU ceased to work. That means: The VUDU item is still in the menu, it just gives me the reported error message.

... I'm a bit uncertain if I can dare to flash the S185 firmware on the S186.

Hhhm ... Interesting. Probably more of a regional problem: On the German page

                      http://www.sony.de/support/de/produc...s/BDP69G_v0033

it says that the latest firmware for the S185 is M09.R.0033, while the US page you sent reports it to be M09.R.0036. ... I guess I'll try to flash it on the S186 - I'll keep you informed what happened.

                        Re: Sony BDP-S186

OK - who dares wins: I just successfully flashed the M09.R.0036 firmware from the US page dhatman gave us on my European BDP-S186 using the "burn to CD" method. *drumroll* VUDU is now working again.

... I also inserted a European BD, and it still played, so this didn't miraculously transform the EU S186 into a US S185.

Thanks a lot for the reply! Let's see if Sony will push the M09.R.0036 for the BDP-S186 as it doesn't seem to matter too much for the "average European guy" - only to us freaks who like to watch VUDU over their VPN connection.
