Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

Got off the phone with a helpful VUDU tech. He had me change IP address to a static one for the Blu Ray player and change something in the router firewall to all all of VUDU's stuff through. Also change the DNS number.

Didn't help any I can tell. Today overall my speed has been a bit better through VUDU whether testing hardwired on my PC or on the Blu Ray player.
But, I'm still getting lowest possible signal when the movie starts. Just the one little green bar I mean.

Wondering if it is a glitch in the Panny Blu Ray player. I'st pretty new and one of the 3D models with built in wi fi.

To try to test it I used a separate network ethernet adapter I have and plugged it in the the ethernet jack in the back of the BR player and reconnected to my network in "wired" mode and it didn't help any as far as speed or strength.

May try a new wireless router dual band that I can assign the BR player to and use the 5gig side and only use it for that.

I'd save your money on the new router. My Blu Ray is wired, and I'm having problems like you.

Also the green icon that you call signal strength is the buffer level. If the buffer is full, it'll be entirely lit up. When I had 6 meg DSL (back when Vudu worked flawlessly for me) the buffer meter only showed 1 segment lit. I upgraded to 12 Meg DSL, and all 3 segments would always be lit. It wasn't until later that I started having chronic buffering issues that still plague me today. And I do see times when only 1 segment is lit, but that makes sense. Only when the buffer is completely empty does playback stop.

        OK....that makes sense.
Nothing the guy today had me do helped.

Still get fast speed tests with big downloads on mytest.net but Vudu is abysmal.

Sounds like that same exact thing you are going through but I am assuming you are not near my location in south central Oklahoma.

Have you tried Amazon streaming to see if it is a problem too? It is not good either and although I thought Netflix was really good I found that watching a whole movie it would blink and reset and go from bad to good all through the movie so I'm getting crappy streaming from all sources.

I brought the blu ray player in question to the bedroom where the router is and wired it directly to the router and reconnected "wired" and it was no better.

I live in Beavercreek OH. If I'm correct, you have cable Internet, right? Mine is AT&T Uverse, which is DSL. Funny how similar our problems are. We should meet at a drive in! (I bet it'd buffer too!)

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

I've been using vudu for 3.5 years for basically all of my movie watching due to the high convenience factor.

In the last 4 weeks, and especially the last few days, I've suddenly encountered the buffering problem. During the problem, I ran a speedtest from my computer and got 40mbit down / 4 meg up to the vudu speedtest. Before, during and after the test the vudu movie buffered constantly, in HD or SD.

It seems to me they're having some capacity issue.

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

I've streamed a couple of things the last couple of nights. I did not see any issues here. If anything it was quicker than normal. It almost instantly started playing at 3 bar HDX and stayed that way.

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

We were able to watch half of a movie in HD last night with a couple stops for buffer with just one bar. Then it said it couldn't continue in HD and had to switch to SD...picture was pretty good though.
Still very disappointing to have this start up a month ago and can't get any resolution.

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

9:20am just ran Vudu speed test on my hardwired PC and got 3.97mps. Then ran Testmy.net with a 12meg download size and got 14.1mps.

                  Don't understand the discrepancy.

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

No resolution yet. Testmy.net has me about 12mbps with a 20meg download test and the Vudu test run right after won't get about 1250kbps.

Doesn't anyone from Vudu come around the Forum to offer some help?

Just to add that I'm having the same exact problem and it started a few weeks ago. Have to revert to HD to get thru a movie now. Never had a problem with HDX before.

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

We are experiencing the same exact problem in the evenings. In buffer mania while watching movies at night. Conversely, we tested Vudu, HD movie in the morning (weekday) and worked fantastic.
At night still buffers HD. We are owed monies from someone....Vudu for having to watch in SD after paying for HD and or the broadband service provider...Time Warner. Tested speed coming into the house and has plenty of Mbps to play HD in the morning. The evening test either wouldn't take (connection problem or tested SD only...other devices worked fine at night.
Appears we have different internet providers and one and the same movie service...Vudu. Hmmm.

We are changing streaming movie services and will let you know.

What was once more convenient than renting movies from DirecTV has now become a service that can't be relied upon.

Re: Vudu HD Streaming useless at night

Having the same problem for about a month now. Can't watch a movie for more than 30 seconds in HD before it starts. My speedtests consistently show 20MBs+ down so see no reason why it has to happen. Especially aggravating because I purchased movies (not rented) but can't watch them....
