    VUDU & UVVU questions

    Hello,

I'm new to the whole Vudu and Ultraviolet thing, so had a few questions to see what is the best setup for me and my family.

I started with a UVVU account, added our movies that I was hesitant on initially. Made a Vudu account with my main UVVU account to be able to do playback on ps3/360. I have setup a 2nd UVVU member on the parent account.

    So my questions....

Movies I purchase on Vudu, do they get added to my UVVU account?

If so, if I have my second member make their own Vudu account (for their personal payment info and what not) would their content they purchase go to our linked UVVU and therefore be avalible on my Vudu account?

If Vudu doesn't go to UVVU, what's the best way to allow my second UVVU family member view the content? As the only thing that would leave me thinking is I'd have to share my Vudu account with them and that doesn't really appeal to me.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!

    Re: VUDU & UVVU questions

When buying a movie on Vudu make sure it has a UV logo shown (on my player it is next to the supported devices on the info screen). If it has the logo, it will be added to UV and should work lokeyou want; you buy it and your family member's Vudu account, linked to the same main UV account, should also have it available. I recommend trying this with credits, free movie bundles, or a SD Disk-to-digital for $2 to confirm before going crazy buying titles.

The only way to share non-UV movies in Vudu is to share the Vudu account.

I had noticed last night some titles have the uv logo, so thanks for confirming!

Is this decided by vudu or the studio's? I'd hope that it's gonna be more the trend as it seems like a half and half thing at the moment on what has uv support or not.

        Re: VUDU & UVVU questions

It is mostly the studios, right now there is good participation with WB, Sony, Paramount, Dreamworks Animation, some with Fox and Lionsgate (new titles). No MGM, Disney, or regular Dreamworks...please add to either list if I missed any.

The studio must be 'enrolled' in UV and even then they have control over which films are available. Once you purchase a UV title you do own digital rights, then it comes down to streaming agreements between the studios and the content providers, like Vudu and Flixster (Vudu has far more titles linked to UV than WB-owned Flixster, due to some studio begrudgery, I suspect). There are some guarantees that the studios agree to when they grant the UV rights, like free streaming for 1 year and a minimum of 3 downloads (IIRC).
