I "own" HDX, "want" to download SD

In my living room, I have a basic television that even if I were to watch a bluray on, there would be no difference in quality. My internet is also very crappy (1.5Mbps), so being that I live with multiple people and I'll be lucky to not lag in a video game online.

My question, is that even though I can easily switch from "HDX to SD" to watch all my movies (I purchased the HDX so that down the line I don't have to 'repurchase' them when I have a faster internet and better television), is there anyway to download "SD" only? I think it odd that I can watch the movie in both qualities, but I am stuck only downloading HDX, which if the movie is about 8GB in size, it will take me over 13 hours to download the whole thing just to watch it. I would prefer to download SD only as it will be only 1GB, and when I come back from work, it should be done downloading =X

Well, hook a laptop up to your crappy tv, that'll give you the SD option, since HD & HDX aren't allowed for PCs.

That's the simple fix, but if I want to pause it, I have to go to the laptop. Most people maybe fine with this, but it would get daunting very fast.

This feature seems like it was somewhat overlooked. I personally would not use as much of Vudu's bandwidth if I was able to download SD only on some consoles (the TV wouldn't make a difference). I only own HDX because I wouldn't want my Bluray's to be stamped and get SD quality lol. That would be idiotic =P.

      -------------------------------------------------
      So, this is already implemented:

      -Download Movie [HDX]
      -Watch Movie [HDX]
-Change Quality [HDX] [HD] [SD] mid movie

      -------------------------------------------------
Would be nice to have this implemented
      -Download Movie
      ->[Popup Screen]
      --Download Movie [HDX]
      --Download Movie [HD]
      --Download Movie [SD]

      -Watch Movie [HDX]
-Change Quality [HDX] [HD] [SD] mid movie

I know I wouldn't be wasting as much bandwidth =P

Adaptive or variable bitrate streaming would be good, too (a la Netflix). Granted, I'd prefer to see my content in the highest quality possible, but if I have to push a button to 'retry' playing a title 4 times during the same movie, that is a worse annoyance than a little artifacting from a reduced bitrate.

VUDU has always used adaptive streaming...

HDX has a number of streams between ~3-9Mbps (some older content may be 4.5-9Mbps), HD from 1.5/2.25-4.5Mbps, and SD from 1-2Mbps.

For downloads, it will only download the highest quality, since the assumption is that's one of the main reasons someone would want to download instead of stream. As far as selecting quality to download (HDX vs SD, for example) - I believe that is being considered.

If the difference of a movie quality is $3-5... buy the HDX version of it because somewhere, down the line, you MIGHT wish you wanted that better version. If you never do use it, it's not THAT big of a loss. If I lived in the city, where I could get Time Warners 5Mbps+ service, I would LOVE to stream movies, however my less than 1.5Mbps is very shotty at times and downloading in advance would completely solve any problems.

Thank you for your reply, and I am glad to see that this is already being considered. This wouldn't cause much of a change, but it would help us with very limited internet speeds suffice for the times being =D

I understand your pains up until this last November I was stuck on dail-up because AT&T refused to upgrade our line to U-Verse or DSL. A month before we put the house on the market AT&T offered U-Verse but we already planning to move into the city and get Charter at 30 Mbs. I used to take advantage of my unlimited data on smartphone back then to make up for it.

Was the download of sd versions when ownership was hd ever resolved? I own the Blade Runner blu ray and the only option available to me on the vudu website is HDX. I don't need an HDX copy I can only watch on my Playstation 3, I can just watch the disc. The reason I am trying to transfer is so I can download and watch on my android tablet, which can only use sd.

If I take the disc to Walmart, can I get a digital copy I can download in SD?

You'll be able to watch Blade Runner on your tablet, assuming the tablet is supported for VUDU playback.

It should allow you to playback in the highest quality the device offers. If you don't want to watch HDX on your computer, once you start the stream, it will allow you to downgrade to HD or SD.

Please clarify if I can download it to my tablet in sd or just watch streaming? I ride public transport and my tablet is wifi only. I have the vudu app installed and it works fine, I just don't want to waste the time driving to Walmart and waste the couple of bucks to find out later that I can't download it on my portable device.

                    Thanks

Can you please clarify if I can download to my mobile device? It is Vudu compatible.

You can download movies for playback on Android tablets. The movies cannot be saved to an SD card.
