Video streaming uses a lot of data, and Vudu tries to stand out from the competition by having excellent video and audio quality, which takes even more bandwidth. Most of us do not have data caps or we wouldn't be using an internet VOD service. You might be better off getting video on demand through a cable or satellite provider...or, if available, find an internet provider without a data cap.

Oh, and if you are going to use Vudu, rent SD instead of HD or HDX and it will use less data.

If you watch SD it will use about 900MB per hour of streaming (the highest quality SD is 2Mbps). HD (4.5Mbps) will use ~2GB/hour, and HDX (9Mbps) ~4GB/hour.

        Are these numbers still accurate?

They're very rough estimates, but AFAIK they still apply. The final file sizes seem to still apply, at least, and if you stream the whole movie, it should be equal to what you download with VuduToGo.

There's been no change in technology that I'm aware of. No reason to believe the numbers would be different.

I would suggest moving off the hot spot to an actual internet provider, if possible. Your data limit will be much higher (lowest I've seen is 150G/Month up to unlimited, depending on service and location) and speeds are usually much faster. Don't know if you have cable or dsl available in your area, but if you do, look into it.
