It's a *****, because it means resetting Roku to Dolby 5.1 for every other service offered by the Roku box, then resetting it again to Stereo, just for Vudu.
The issue is that Roku does not support decoding Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus (the latter of which VUDU uses). It will only do passthru output, so if your receiver doesn't support DD+ you have to switch to stereo output. Netflix has the same issue, they just don't have as many movies in DD+ yet.

Same Issue, with Roku 2, wireless. Tried to watch Boarkwalk Empire on HDX and "Flight" on HD. I have no other problems with any other roku station. I tried rebooting the Roku, no better.

I'd like to keep renting from Vudu but if it won't work a refund of my rental for Flight will suffice.

        Re: Vudu Roku Issues

I don't know who's to blame for the constant buffering and other issues...Roku or Vudu. But I tend to believe that it's Roku because I can switch over to the app in my Vizio television and get around most issues...but there was once Saturday night when we couldn't stream anything from Vudu from our Roku device, Vizio television, or Blu-ray so I think that night was on Vudu (and yes we could stream from Netflix during that same time).

I think Roku is still new and growing. Maybe by the time they come out with Roku 4 they will have most of their issues worked out.

Are you using Roku wirelessly or via Ethernet (I know some don't even have Ethernet...) Roku's Wifi sometimes has issues - if you are only seeing issues on Roku Wifi you might want to try tweaking your Wifi (changing channels/power, seeing if you can move it closer, etc?) Maybe Roku support might have advice on that, don't know...

I rarely have an issue with the Vudu app on the Roku 2 and Roku 3. On the rare occasion I may have an issue but it's usually resolved rather quickly.

I wonder if the vudu channel is buggy on the roku and is leaking memory. I have also found that power cycling my roku fixes the buffering issues. But, I have watched a ton of Amazon prime content on my roku - in HD - and never had a buffering issue.

Hopefully a developer can figure out what is wrong if in fact the channel is memory leaking.

I have the same problem and so far there doesn't seem to be a fix. When the Roku 3 has been running for a month or more, the Vudu channel starts to have buffering issues as people describe in this thread.

I can stream Netflix and Amazon for a month or more without any issues but Vudu will require me to unplug my Roku 3 and reboot before it starts working reliability again.

It's a repeatable bug but takes a month to demonstrate it. Sadly, I don't think this will ever get fixed. I'm guessing the average Vudu customer on Roku just gives up.

We have 4 roku's in the house and today I watched 3 movies, all different times of the day on two different roku's (roku 2xd and HD) and encountered buffering issues. Roku network tests on both the roku's show the signal strength as excellent but Vudu shows it at 1 bar. When I run the test on Roku I get varied results from no signal to it being maxed out during the whole test. Now like others on the forums I run Amazon and Netflix HD without a hitch. Speedtest.net:

Now the above is of course my wired speed, and both roku's are running wireless so there will be a speed difference ont he roku's but plenty of bandwidth to stream HDX. I usually unplug my rokus when not in use as I have heard this "fixes" some buffering issues but this seems not to be the case. Does anyone know if there is a setting I need to look for in my router's settings or something that could be causing my buffering issues.

Here's what I watched them on:
                  Roku 2XD
                  Roku HD

on Comcast 50mb/s service through an Asus RT-N66U router.
I have the same issue on my Roku plenty of speed and it says that it has network errors all the time everything else works on my Roku except for Vudu very disappointing. Don't know what else to do I've tried!
                  20.59mbps download and 5.89 up!!

I have the same issue as well. After running for a few weeks, it will constantly buffer, no matter the time of day, and it happens on any quality setting, even SD. I have 15 - 20 Mbps downstream. Nothing fixes it till I restart. Vudu, please fix your channel. No other channel has this problem.

I think DanielH already tried to help us a couple weeks ago. We thought that he had actually done something because that same weekend streaming was much better and we only had a couple of buffering issues. Then, this past weekend it was terrible again.

Anyway, our ISP is Ringgold Phone Company.
