    Vudu on Roku failure

Just wanted to document that I have had a failure of VUDU channel to work on my ROKU 2 XS device for four days now, with no resolution. have been online with ROKU and VUDU and no luck yet. I get the network failure message consistently.

    Details are

Roku 2 XS has the latest software, and an 8GB card installed, and using a hard wired ethernet cable.

Connected to an Apple AIRPORT EXTREME router, and a ZOOM modem to my COMCAST ISP running about 3.1 MBPS speed download consistently.

Only trying to play SD movies. Mostly trying to use ULTRAVIOLET movies, but also trying to just look at previews.

can play any and all Amazon Prime videos. Only the VUDU channel fails.

can play all VUDU movies via an IPAD or via a computer on the same exact network.

    What have I tried?

    1) Reboot the Roku by pulling power.
    2) Remove the channel and reinstall the channel
    3) Change the primary and secondary DNS of the router.

What I will not do? - will not do a factory reset and try to install from a blank roku. have about ten apps that all require activation, and do not want to spend an hour reentering all my account information for all these channels again.

Only VUDU channel fails to work

have noticed that the date on the VUDU CHANNEL software says that it was released in september 2012 and has not had an update since? there have been no attempt to fix the software? or is that date wrong? is there a beta improved version of the VUDU CHANNEL that can be used?

    Re: Vudu on Roku failure

I'm having problems with Vudu on my Roku too.

No matter what the definition it says "Unable to stream this movie at the moment due to a network error. Please try again a little later."

It worked fine on my Xbox 360, and my computer; however, I plan on canceling my xbox live membership so I would like this problem fixed. It shouldn't take me four hours to watch a three hour movie.

        Re: Vudu on Roku failure

still my problem is not fixed. spent half an hour with tech support on the phone trying several ideas for tests. made no difference

of course this all got complicated when they asked me to try a factory reset. well got no warning that the roku link web site is down for maintenance. so the black hickey puck sits idle until roku gets back up and running on the link web site.

incedentally roku is coming out with ROKU 3 which will include new software fir all roku devices. cant happen soon enough.

I got this exact error last week. I backed all the way out of the vudu channel to the main Roku screen and then went back in. That seemed to fix it for me. Seems like a lot of us are having issues with Vudu on Roku, but no issues with Amazon Prime.

            problem fixed

FACTORY RESET actually fixed the problem. shocking.

note: ordered a Roku 3 anyway. faster is better.

I am having the same problem. Vudu on my my Roku 2 XD stutters, stalls, and buffers every few seconds, telling me my Internet speed is inadequate even for streaming standard definition video. However, I am streaming at about 35 Mbps on speedtest.net, and I have no streaming problems with HD video on either Netflix or Amazon. In fact, I can stream with no problems exactly the same program on Amazon that fails on Vudu.

I have tried deleting and then reinstalling the Vudu app on my Roku, but the problem persists. I can't say I am frustrated, because I have more than enough content on Netflix, Amazon, and other channels that work just fine. But I was eager to give Vudu a try, and I am disappointed that this problem has apparently persisted for many users over several weeks. Is there a fix on the way?

                Re: Vudu on Roku failure

I am having the same issues with Vudu on my Roku 2XS. I installed Vudu when I got my Roku in early February, 2013 and it worked fine with all channels including Vudu. Yesterday I tried to access Vudu and it tried to go to the site and returned to the channel selection. I saw that others on this forum are having the same problem.

I contacted Roku via their chat line and everything they suggested did not work. I told them to have their tech dept contact Vudu's tech department since a number of us are having the same problem. The customer service rep said she had informed their level 2 tech dept...whatever that means I am not sure.

Vudu works on my LG WIFI TV, but I would prefer Roku because it is hardwired to my Internet connection.

These types of problems are very frustrating and should not occur.

Same problem I have on Roku. I've already sent a private message to one of the Vudu moderators.

I signed up an hour ago and rented one movie and have done nothing but try to stream it.

There was no problem with the money transaction, though.

                      Re: Vudu on Roku failure

I have a Roku 2 XD and have downloaded the VUDU channel. As soon as I click on the channel it starts to come up and then just goes back to my Roku home screen. Never even starts! I thought this may have been a bad install or something so I just removed the channel and then downloaded it again, fresh. Same issue occurred. I have only tried it over the last few weeks so I don't know for sure if this issue is something that has been going on for a while, but I have never got mine to work at all.

Don't know if anyone else has ever had the same issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

                      Thanks!

I checked the vudu support FAQ and it said that a problem with buffering is likely a result of low memory on the Roku, and to power cycle the Roku by unplugging it for 10 seconds - I followed those instructions and it is now working perfectly. Seems like poor programming on someone's fault - not sure if it is Roku or Vudu, as I don't have this issue with any other app. Either way, this worked.

I have 2 Rokus in my house, and I've been having the same problem on both of them for a couple of days now. That makes me think it's not really low memory on the Roku - surely they both didn't come down with memory issues at the exact same time! It's something to do with Vudu itself. Very frustrating.
