I have several of the HDDVDs and am wondering if Walmart will convert them onto Vudu? They are HD and so would the conversion price be 2.oo?

Yes, they will... Explain to them it is a straight HD convert if they ask, not DVD to HD..

I'm going to throw a big ol' YMMV sticker on this...

I've actually been told by some of the employees in the Electronics/Photo Center are to come back later when someone else is there so that they could do the transfer for me because this person didn't know how. I wouldn't be surprised if I took a red case instead of a blue case or a disc that didn't say "Blu-ray" on it that they would not be willing to do the transfer or call it a transfer from DVD instead, even though the content on the disk is technically in HD. I guess I'll just have to try and see!

I converted the last 21 HD DVDs to digital so that if my HD DVD player and backup player bite the dust, I'll still be able to see them via Vudu.

You would need to have an HD DVD rom first and those are quite rare.

They're not that rare. A lot of people got the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drives. Those will work on your PC. You can pick them up for around $40 on eBay.

I've got one. Tried doing D2D At Home with some HD-DVDs. And it won't work.

This conversion service is not for HD DVD or any other formats not specifically mentioned (VHS, VCD, Laserdisc...). There was already a debate about this in the past and VUDU mods already said as much.

You might be able to pull a fast one on a Walmart employee, but that does not make it acceptable.

This is a service by these companies to convert HD titles to the cloud, if HD-DVD was still around and being supported, the would already have an app.. You can't support something dead in the water and the companies that are supporting UVVU and HD-DVD have almost all their movies available via UVVU, it says if you have a SD version (Many HD-DVD had DVD on flip side) you can pay $5 for HD convert, if you have an HD version you pay $2... What is pulling a fast one? They can't officially support something dead that they are trying to get behind them, but we own these official ( most of them better than blu-ray anyway ) HD discs of the movies, we are doing wrong for doing an HD to HD conversion?

                      Re: HDDVD format

It is not simple as that. The issue here is that only DVD and Blu-ray discs are authorized by the studios and Walmart/VUDU for Disc to Digital conversion.

How much does it cost to convert a DVD or Blu-ray? disc to digital and add it to my UltraViolet? and VUDU account?

$2 per DVD to convert to Standard Definition (?SD?)
$2 per Blu-ray? disc to convert to High Definition with Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound (?HDX?)
$5 per DVD to convert and upgrade to HDX
There really is no arguing this. If other formats were meant to be applicable, it would say so.

I agree, how many times do the studios expect us to keep buying another version of the same movie?
