    Pre order vs purchase

What's the advantage of pre-ordering a movie on Vudu rather than purchasing it on the date of the digital release?

None that I can see. I've only done the pre-order once via Vudu (Walmart) for Skyfall (a year ago) and that was because the price was lower via Walmart than anywhere else. People are also complaining that they're not getting the copies any earlier either.

I think jerrym5 is referring to pre-ordering a digital-only movie from vudu.com, not from Walmart.

Thank you for the responses. You are correct I was not very clear in my question. I recently pre-ordered Insidious 2 on vudu, which became available to watch on 12/10. On that date it also became available to purchase for the same amount as the pre-order. What's the sense in pre-ordering? I just recently registered on Vudu, and very happy with the service, but I do have questions.

I think the pre-orders also often make some bonus content (interviews, "making of" videos, etc - the sort of extras you get on DVDs) available immediately.

            Re: Pre order vs purchase

Many times preordering just gets you the same thing at the same time as people who buy it on the release date...but I think the idea is that you don't have to wait and time your purchase or worry about availability exactly on the release date.

I was disappointed to see that Vudu immediately charged my card for Thor: Ragnarok even though it's barely out in theaters. Apparently, it was for the privilege of watching a 90 second featurette. There is no advantage in my opinion, other than Vudu being able to take my money before the movie is even released.

They did the same thing to me and I am not a happy camper,so now I will not preorder unless I get $3. towards my next purchase(which is the reason I normally preorder)

Doing something like this brings new meaning to Vudu's "commitment not to charge your credit card until the movie is available to watch".

I?ve noticed at least in some cases that the digital preorder on Vudu can be cheaper than the street price of the bluray. I?ve also noticed the digital Vudu price going up on Vudu on digital release date.

Disc to digital is typically more expensive then digital preorder or even disc preorder at a store. However you get access to the digital early.

That's what happened when Disney bought Marvel their increased Blu ray price went above my budget, but now it seems Disney is trying a justify the price increase by offering the digital HD with their movies.Even though it is said the blu ray dvd has more information on them,it is nice to get the movie cheaper(same price as Blu ray's use to be) and 2 weeks early, which you get by buying the digital HD movie from Vudu.

Pre-Order with Vudu many times comes with a $3 credit applied to your account for future purchase when title is released.
