Don't be petty and ridiculous and snivel-nerdy. Nowhere did I say that, or would I. My post stands. RE-Read it.

I EXPECT VUDU to have suggestions as to the 'types' of programs that can, and that they HAVE seen others have trouble with.

    HDCP Error 3338 problem -SOLVED!-

For MONTHS I wrestled with this problem/error. I had always been able to view HDX movies on my ASUS PC and LG monitor before. Never had seen any HDCP errors, ever.

Suddenly out of the blue, I began getting the HDCP 3338 error every time I tried to watch a title in HDX, and was now only allowed to view them in SD!

I contacted VUDU technical support, and they responded that it was probably my video card. Huh??? I was told that maybe my video card drivers were too old, and to look online for updates. uh, oooh kaaaay.

I keep my stuff up to date constantly. The problem surfaced during a time when nothing had recently updated... so the suggestion sounded like a waste of time, but I checked anyway, no, there were no new updates for my video card.

I tried everything. I uninstalled various applications, stripped everything down, new cables, HDMI, DVI.....still had the 3338 error. Even thought that my embedded video card had gone bad.

Exasperated, I was actually going to order a new video card when it occurred to me that perhaps VUDU had changed it's own requirements, and forgot to tell us lowly, apparently insignificant customers. I went online and began seeing chatter like this in other forums discussing VUDU. But certainly VUDU support would TELL ME if they had changed their HDCP requirements/restrictions, right? I mean, I took the time to ASK THEM POINT BLANK!

So, I began thinking like an HDCP Nazi. What kinds of programs would a warped mind seek to limit on user's hardware. Then it hit me, remote access! Perhaps copyright holders would want to crush any attempt at a user watching their own purchased content on a tablet or mobile device, or at work, etc. Hmmm. So I use 3 remote access programs, LogMeIn, Splashtop and PocketCloud.

I uninstalled all of them, and MY HDCP error 3338 PROBLEM VANISHED!!!!!!!

So then I re-installed PocketCloud and then LogMeIn, and was still able to view VUDU titles in HDX. No problem with those applications. Then I installed Splashtop --- by golly, HDCP error 3338!!

So, here's what really ****es me off.

I had ALL THIS CONTACT time and interaction with VUDU support, and not once, NOT ONE FRIGGING TIME did they share that remote access types of programs can activate HDCP barriers to watching VUDU content. WHY? I mean WHY????!!! Is it a SECRET?

If they would have simply SAID 'hey, do you use any remote desktop applications? Sometimes they are the cause of this error." And I would have been able to 'fix' my GD problem that same day. F***!!!

This really, really REALLY ****es me off. And what FURTHER ****es me off is I HAVE ALWAYS HAD SPLASHTOP INSTALLED ON MY PC, for over a year at least, without any issues viewing VUDU content in HDX. So the "PROBLEM" began when VUDU 'decided' to begin BLOCKING users with that particular program installed, and they didn't even have the FRIGGING decency to send us a notice regarding this, OR EVEN INFORMING US of this conflict WHEN WE had even CONTACTED SUPPORT WITH THE PROBLEM!!!!

I REALLY like the VUDU service, but this kind of 'disconnect' from reality and subsequent horrible customer experience REALLY REALLY makes me wonder if my investment in their 'service' has been a wise one.

    Buyer and user beware!
Working...
