    Closed Captions on Panasonic TV

I was watching "Her" today, a new release that is labeled on Vudu to have Closed Captions. The captions did not show up on my Panasonic TV (TC-P65VT50). The Panasonic UI gives me an option to show the captions, but they don't appear when I enable them. I tried a number of other movies, all fail to show captions.

I sent an email to the "closed_captioning@vudu.com" email account. My guess is Vudu points to Panasonic, and Panasonic point to Vudu. No one is to blame, no one is accountable, and the captions still don't work. Anyone want to take the bet?

The Vudu Support pages say captions on TV will be supported "Very Soon", but it's not been updated since 10/1/2012.

I'm pretty sure the law says the captions on the Internet need to be available within 45 days of performance on TV.

Do you have closed captioning enabled on your account?

    Under Account Info:

    Closed Caption Settings
Show closed caption when it is available
    Manually set closed caption style

We're looking into it. Captions exist for the title and are visible with other devices, so it looks like something specific to that TV model or your setup...

Could you go into closed caption settings in the app and reset them to the defaults? Just making sure the captions weren't accidentally set to "transparent" (which, yes, is a fairly pointless setting, but is part of the required standard...)

Yes, captions were enabled on my Vudu account. I tried to upload a screen print, but the widget is not working for attachments.

I'll need to check the default captions. Since we have them on for all streaming and OTA content, I doubt they are set to transparent, but I'll look.

Actually, captions for devices (like a Panasonic TV) are just controlled by the settings in the *VUDU* app on the TV (and saved per device), not from the website - the website account captions are for PC playback.

Also: they are *not* enabled from any "Panansonic" TV UI - you can turn them on or control them in the VUDU app from the VUDU settings (rightmost tab in the app) - or even easier, when playing a movie, just bring up the "play bar" at the bottom, select the "CC" button and choose "English".

I used the CC button to turn them on, as I mentioned at the top of the thread. They didn't show.

Is there further information I can provide to help debug?
