    IT UHD audio trouble

I?m fairly new to Vudu, coming over from mainly doing disc. I bought the 4k of IT today and the audio is popping and glitchy at times. The HDX version does not do this. I don?t know if it has something to do with Dolby Atmos or what exactly. I have 4k LG TV and my home theater is older (not Dolby Atmos) but I?m not sure if it?s something on my end, or what. I?ve tried changing it from bitstream to PCM Multi and nothing seems to change. I think Blade Runner 4K did this too when I tested the beginning of it, but Everest didn?t seem to (both Dolby Atmos).

    Please help.

I am forwarding this on for our QA to take a look. In the meantime, a few details that might help narrow things down:

What model/year is your TV? (and I assume you are playing from the app on the TV?)
For audio, it sounds like you are outputting to a receiver from the TV? If so, is that via HDMI ARC or a separate optical cable, etc?
And if you are using a receiver, could you try it with the TV audio/speakers just to see if it still happens?
One more - is this a Dolby Vision capable TV? If so, do you see "Dolby Vision" pop up in the upper right when starting playback?

      It?s an LG 2016 OLED 4k 3D... model OLED55C6P
I am using the built in VUDU app.
It is running audio out via optical to the LG home 3D theater system w/ wireless read speakers (don?t have model number but I believe it is a 2011-12 model).
I?ve tried bitstream and PCM multi
The sound doesn?t glitch when being ran directly through the TV.
I've noticed it only seems to happen on 4K Dolby Atmos films.

I'm having this issue with several UHD titles (using the Vudu app on my 2016 LG C6 OLED). The audio is choppy and constantly cuts in and out. Here are the titles I've noticed so far:
        • Dunkirk
        • It (2017)
        • Lego Ninjago Movie
And probably a couple of others that I can't remember right now. It seems to affect recent UHD titles. Older titles like Everest, Central Intelligence, and Jupiter Ascending play fine with perfect audio.

My TV is connected via HDMI ARC to a Sony soundbar (model HT-ST5000). I tried using an optical connection as well but that didn't help. The TV is running the latest firmware and the Vudu app is also the most recent version. As soon as I switch from UHD to HDX on the affected titles, the audio is perfect. Also, when I switch the audio output format in the TV's settings from "Auto" to "PCM," the problem goes away. But then I'm left with low quality 2-channel sound.

My temporary work-around was to use a Chromecast Ultra to stream these titles in UHD, but that has problems of its own (see my post here). Any insight into both of these issues (choppy audio on LG app and no UHD via Chromecast Ultra) would be appreciated!

I'm always having the issue with the "Loading" screen appearing on newer UHD Vudu titles as well but whenever I play an older title, they work just fine. I wonder if the Vudu servers aren't capable of serving the newer titles because of the high demand when they first come out?

          84 UHD
          857 HDX

That shouldn't be the case (if anything, with the way CDNs and caching works, the more popular the title the better it should be). When you say "newer", is this something really recent (the past few weeks) or any title when it's "new"? Also, what device(s)/apps do you see this on?

Hey Ryanmcv... Have you tried watching any of them in 4K on fandangonow? I just tried a few problematic minutes of IT, and so far so good. It definitely seems like a VUDU issue.

Hey - are you saying that not all of the movie has these issues? Our QA has already tested on several LG TVs and receivers and hasn't reproduced it yet. But they are spot checking, if it only happens in certain parts, please let us know in as much detail (time ranges, etc) that you can. Thanks!

The first 10 minutes of IT has the issue for sure for me... couldn?t get through it to see if it continues.. it?s bad haha. Same with Blade Runner. No problems at all when watchingthe 4K IT on fandango now.

It?s also doing it on Dunkirk 4K , which we just started trying to watch now. It?s like the other poster said... all these newer releases are doing something strange.

If anyone with this issue can try outputting sound from the LG TV speakers (instead of a receiver w/ ARC/optical) and see if it works ok that would be helpful info. We are trying to determine if there is an issue with the content or the LG TV firmware (have not been able to reproduce yet, but are trying).

The audio is weird when I play it through my internal tv speaker too. Pops and cracks and such. Sounds differently flawed than with the home theater but flaws none the less. This was for IT.

Edit: just tested internal on Blade Runner... same thing. Pops and skips and cracks.

Edit: my LG set is OLED55C6P if I didn?t say.

While playing It in UHD, I went into the TV's settings and changed audio output to TV speakers. The choppiness went away and the audio plays perfectly through the TV speakers. As soon as I change the audio output back to HDMI ARC, the audio stuttering/choppiness begins on my sound bar. Same problem with the following UHD titles tested tonight:
                            • The Lego Ninjago Movie
                            • Dunkirk
                            • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
There are definitely others but I don't have time to go through all of them. On UHD titles that don't have the audio issue, there are often noticeable video stutters/frame drops during playback. Jupiter Ascending, for example, plays with perfect audio, but there appears to be a stutter in the video every 5 seconds or so.

This is definitely a problem specific to the Vudu app on my LG OLED55C6P. When I play Dolby Vision titles through the TV's built-in Netflix app, I have no problems. TV is running the latest firmware 05.30.02. Hard-wired into a gigabit fiber Internet connection. I have tried power cycling the TV and even reset the TV to factory default settings, but that hasn't helped. Sound bar is a Sony HT-ST5000 also running latest firmware.

Again, as soon as I switch from UHD to HDX during playback, the issues go away.

On another (possibly related) note, I can't even get Inception UHD to stream tonight. It just sits at the loading screen until it asks me to switch to HDX.

I basically can't watch my Vudu UHD titles that I've spent hundreds of dollars on. The issue started in the past couple of weeks, and nothing on my end has changed in that time. I thought I'd be able to use a Chromecast Ultra instead, but that hasn't worked either (see my link in the above post). Thanks for looking into this.

P.S. - The audio and video stuttering does not happen at any particular spot during UHD playback. The problems start almost immediately when I begin playback.

Also, I think I mentioned this above - when I change the TV's audio output from "Auto" to "PCM," the audio problems go away, but then I'm stuck with 2.0 channel audio.
