It's very sad Vudu doesn't embrace such an ever growing community... Seriously, Chromebooks and Chromebox are growing fast. They are about cloud computing aka any online service should be able to be used by any device such as Chromebooks.

I spent money not understanding I couldn't download my movie locally But worse, there is no support for my computer so I am having to stick with Amazon and Youtube services. I will nolonger be making any purchases on Vudu until this changes.

I have a Chromebook and am using it with Vudu. I am able to use the website to stream in HDX. The Vudu App supports downloads but only in SD.

As of Thanksgiving day 2018, (Nov 23rd) my Chromebook is able to play my VUDU internet movies now ! I checked yesterday for the first time since July of 2018.. To my surprise, I could actually watch the VUDU movies I purchased online again..Needless to say I was a happy camper ..Does anyone know what happened to fix the incapability issues between Chromebooks and VUDU ? Who upgraded their software..Google Chrome or VUDU?

Now that VUDU has abandoned their Chromebook customers..The "customer service rep" at VUDU Ph num 888-554-8838 told me about this error "playback error..unable to start playback" and advised me that basically chrome users were pretty much screwed (not their exact words)..However on reply #9 hquinnmiller posted the following possible temporary fix:

"I found that I could download the app on my chromebook and it is able to do playback or download now. A little upset though because I spent money and rented a movie through chrome browser and then found out I could not stream it on my chromebook. EIther way, the app is working I know it's not ideal. But it's working and keeping up. Hope this helped anyone still struggling."

Does ANYONE know which specific app he/she is referring to? If so, can you copy and paste the link to this app so I can give it a try?

I have the same issue on one of our Chromebooks that uses the new update.
The other one has the old site bookmarked and works fine.
I've tried changing settings but nothing has seemed to work. It's very frustrating.

I would like the ability to download my Vudu movies on Chromebook for offline playback but it always errors out. Chromebook users are growing, they need to embrace them.

This is an unfortunate change to the ability to play from the web. This may likely push our purchasing to other services that continue to support Chromebook.

I am also not able to watch movies on my Chromebook anymore. I get "Playback error Unable to start playback". This all started in January. When I contacted through Facebook, they said they were working on it, but that was weeks ago. This is really frustrating because I purchased movies directly from them. I've emailed Walmart as well, because I usually buy movies from them because of the Vudu connection. I'm not doing that again until the problem gets fixed.

Me too. I was able to play them on moviesanywhere.com, but I much prefer the Vudu interface.

Yea, I switched to a Chromebook years ago because of it's ease, security and fast operation. Now Vudu wont support such a huge chromebook following? Fix it Vudu.
