    Sorting Movies By Series

I know a lot of sorting talk has gone on over the years, but why haven't there been more options added? As I move more and more of my movies into VUDU, it becomes more obvious that I need a way to organize the list. Most HTPC programs such as XBMC can use a sorting title. For instance Batman movies.

    Batman Begins
    The Dark Knight
    The Dark Knight Rises

I have literally 140 movies between batman begins and the dark knight. Either a series sorting option such as

    movie sortname
Batman Begins Batman dark knight trilogy -1
The Dark Knight Batman dark knight trilogy -2
The Dark Knight Rises Batman dark knight trilogy -3

Then vudu can use the sortname to sort the list. this helps with long series like harry potter and disjointed names such as the batman example above. Either that or a manual sorting ability (like adding our own sortnames, or just being able to assign a position number metadata to control the sorting would be great.

OR combine series into one box, then when we click into the batman box we see the 3 movies (in order)

    Re: Sorting Movies By Series

An easy solution would just be to allow us to add movies into folders. This would be a HUGE feature that would satisfy TONS of people's gripes over this.

Just think, you could still sort movies A-Z like it is now (Except on Xbox One because there are STILL NO sorting options! Ugh.) but in addition, you could also have a movie like Batman Begins in custom folders like "Superhero Movies", "Batman Movies", "Christian Bale Movies", etc...

Yea Exactly. I'd be happy with just a step in the right direction.

I know a lot of people are excited about VUDU because of the disc to digital program. If we grow a collection, we'd like it to be displayed as expected. Alphabetical, sorting, release dates. That's all well and good for a computer, but on a game console or smart TV it just doesn't cut it. When you get over 100 movies people may want to browse your collection and pick a movie. We'll they may never know that you have the whole batman series, because they don't scroll that far. (bad example as dark knight is under D, but you get the point)

Yep, folders, or better yet, tags, would solve this and many other issues. Like one just for "Kid-appropriate movies" or, more specifically, "little Johnny's cartoons" and "[teenager's] vampire/emo movies". With tags, movies could "belong" to more than one category. Folders usually don't work that way.

Yes, that what was i was alluding to but folders was definitely the wrong word. Tags would be perfect but would only really be useful if the "Tag" categories would be shown in the main list so that when you sort, they would show. For example a "Batman" tag would show in the A-Z list under B... If that makes sense.

            Re: Sorting Movies By Series

With 250 movies (small compared to a lot of collections out there) it's becoming a pain to find something I'm looking for. I just need someway to group things together---perfect example is Bond movies, I'm starting to move my discs to VUDU and since buying the collection isn't an option, the only way to keep them together is to purchase them one-by-one in order...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

              Re: Sorting Movies By Series

I don't think they've officially said anything on it, but I gotta believe they are working on some sort of user-controlled sorting option. It's something constantly brought up on the forums.

I want custom folders/playlists more than anything, but I also wouldn't mind the ability to change the "sort title" property of a movie as well, ala Plex.
For those that haven't used such a feature before, the idea is that a movie has a title, but the "sort title" allows you to determine how the movie is placed among others. For example, Batman so far has 7 official movies, but the names would put them out of order.
So, here is how I have them displayed in Plex:
              Title (Sort Title)
              Batman (Batman 1)
              Batman Returns (Batman 2)
              Batman Begins (Batman 3)
              The Dark Knight (Batman 4)
The Dark Knight Rises (Batman 5)

If you're wondering, no, I don't include the two JS movies, because in my mind, those movies never happened.
But anyway, this helps because when I look for "Batman", all the movies are grouped together, in chronological order. I suppose you could do the same with tags, assuming it would order everything tagged "Batman" (or whatever tag you choose) by release date.
